INTRODUCTION

 SCM is a mixed analog-digital modulation technique

 Used for transmission of signals with different SNR’s
 SCM uses the advantages of both analog and digital
communications

 In SCM there is an analog and digital component that is

added at the receiver end
WHY SCM

 SCM is used for transmission over noisy channel

 It provides an analog pipe through which signal is

transmitted
 Using SCM an exact replica of original message signal is
obtained
COMPONENTS

 Sampler

 PCM Encoder
 PCM Decoder
 Modulator
 Demodulator
SAMPLER
 Converts the continuous signal to discrete signal.

r
 SCM consists of 2 channels, one for analog and the other
for digital transmission
 First the input signal is sampled

 Sampled signal then passed through PCM Encoder the

output will be a digital signal
 Digital signal is modulated and passed through channel 2
Cont...
 Analog component is obtained by subtracting the sampled
signal from the digital signal

 It is then amplified and passed through channel 1

 At the receiver end
 Analog signal divided by a factor
 Digital
signal is demodulated and passed through PCM
Decoder
Cont...

 Analog residual component and the decoded digital signal

are added at the receiver

 Original analog message signal is obtained

APPLICATION

 SCM is used in new generation digital audio recording

Cont…
 SCM can act as a Central Radio

 Used in Broad band communications
