MAP OF MALAYSIA
INTRODUCTION
• Malaysia is a country that consists of thirteen states and three federal
territories located in Southeast Asia. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur ,
and Putrajaya is the seat of the federal government.
• The population stands at over 27 million. The country is separated into
two regions, Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo by the South
China Sea. Malaysia borders Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Brunei and
the Philippines. The country is located near the equator and experiences a
tropical climate.

• Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy, nominally headed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong
(King). Kings are elected for 5-year terms from among the nine sultans of the peninsular
Malaysian states.
• The king also is the leader of the Islamic faith in Malaysia. Executive power is vested in the
cabinet led by the Prime Minister ; the Malaysian constitution stipulates that the prime
minister must be a member of the lower house of Parliament who, in the opinion of the
Yang di-Pertuan Agong, commands a majority in parliament.
• The cabinet is chosen from among members of both houses of parliament and is
responsible to that body. The Malays form the majority of the population and there are
sizable Chinese and Indian communities. Islam is the largest as well as the official religion
of the federation. The Malay language is the official language.
POPULATION OF MALAYSIA
• The current population of Malaysia is 32,295,936 as of Tuesday, February 12, 2019, based on the latest
United Nations estimates.
• Malaysia population is equivalent to 0.42% of the total world population.
• Malaysia ranks number 45 in the list of countries (and dependencies) by population.
• The population density in Malaysia is 99 per Km2 (256 people per mi2).
• The total land area is 328,550 Km2 (126,854 sq. miles)
• 77.1 % of the population is urban (25,029,766 people in 2019)
• The median age in Malaysia is 28.1 years.

Which state has the highest population in Malaysia?

Labuan (1.3%) and Perlis (1.2%). Population


distribution by state indicated that Selangor was
the most populous state (5.46 million), followed
by Johor (3.35 million) and Sabah(3.21 million). The
population share of these states to the total
population of Malaysia was 42.4 per cent.
Why is Selangor the most popular?

Selangor also known by its Arabic honorific Darul Ehsan, or "Abode


of Sincerity", is one of the 13 states of Malaysia. It is on the west
coast of Peninsular Malaysia and is bordered by Perak to the north,
Pahang to the east, Negeri Sembilan to the south and the Strait of
Malacca to the west. Selangor surrounds the federal territories of
Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, both of which were previously part
of it.

The state capital of Selangor is Shah Alam and its royal capital is Klang.
Petaling Jaya, was awarded city status in 2006. Selangor is one of three
Malaysian states that contain more than one city with official city status;
the others are Sarawak and Johor.
The state of Selangor has the largest economy in Malaysia in terms of
gross domestic product (GDP), with RM 239.968 billion (roughly USD 55.5
billion) in 2015, comprising 22.6% of the country's GDP. It is the most
developed state in Malaysia; it has good infrastructure such as highways
and transport, and has the largest population in Malaysia, a high standard
of living and the lowest poverty rate in the country.
Population density
• Population density of Malaysia stood at 86 persons per square kilometer in
2010 compared with 71 persons in 2000. Unlike the population distribution,
the population density revealed a different picture. Selangor being the most
populous state was only ranked fifth in terms of population density with 674
persons per square kilometre. Among the most densely populated states were
W. P. Kuala Lumpur (6,891 persons), Pulau Pinang (1,490 persons) and W. P.
Putrajaya (1,478 persons).
Malaysia Population Growth
The annual growth of Malaysia is statistically estimated to
be 1.6%. As we see in the population growth statistics,
Malaysia’s growth rate gets lower each year. From being
2% in 2000, it went down to 1.8 % in 2005, and then
declined to 1.72% in 2009. It dropped to 1.61% in 2010 and
finally to 1.54% in the year 2012.

This statistical analysis shows that Malaysia needs to improve on a lot
in order to raise its population growth rate. There is a need to
increase the birth ratio over the death ratio. Some other measures
taken by the government, such as health and social services, can help
to increase It is expected there will be an increase in the population
growth of Malaysia with significant changes in the ethnic composition
of the population in the next 40 years. The number of Malays will
continue to rise as it did from 56.6 percent in 1980 to 60.1 percent in
the year 2000. It will finally rise to about 64.4 percent in the year
2020. the population growth rate.
