Communication

– Is the exchange of thoughts, feelings,


expressions and observations among
people.
– People can transmit messages verbally –
using words and phrases and non-verbally
using signs, objects, body movements etc.
Communication can be seen
through:

– Face-to-face interaction
– A phone conversation
– A group discussion
– A meeting or interview
– A letter correspondence
– A class recitation

1. Communication is a process.

–Communication among people is


active. They communicate following
their creative and convenient ways
and method to achieve a certain
goal or objective.
Communication as an interaction

– Communication occurs between two or


more people (the speaker and the
receiver).
– Communication binds people together.
Their interaction with one another
connects their understanding.
Communication as a Social
Context

– The act of producing, transmitting, and


receiving meaningful symbolic messages in
an environment such as schools, church or
any social gathering is communication.
– Here, people can influence or encourage
others to create meaningful ideas.
Process of Communication

– Communication is a process because the


sender and the receiver needs other
elements to be able to complete the
method.
– Each person sees and interprets verbal and
non-verbal messages sent and received
through various channels.

Elements of Communication

1. Speaker – the source or sender of information or message


2. Message – the information, ideas, or thoughts conveyed by
the speaker in words or in actions
3. Encoding – the process of converting the message into words,
actions, or other forms that the speaker understands.
4. Channel – the medium or the way the message is conveyed
(verbal or non-verbal)

6. Decoding – the process of interpreting the encoded message


7. Receiver – the recipient of the message or someone who
decodes a message.
8. Feedback – reactions, responses or information provided by
the receiver
9. Context – the environment where communication takes
place
10.Barrier – the factors that affect the flow of communication.
