7. 4 8. 16
9. 9 10. 25
Quadratic Equation
• It is a polynomial
equation of the
second degree.
STANDARD FORM OF
QUADRATIC EQUATION
2
• 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑏𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0
Where: 𝑎, 𝑏, 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑐 are real number
coefficient 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎 ≠ 0

Pure Quadratic Eq.:

𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑐 = 0

Incomplete Quadratic Eq.:

2
𝑎𝑥 + 𝑥𝑏 = 0
Classify the ffg. Quadratic
Equation Below:
2
A. 𝑥 −2𝑥 + 9 = 0
2
B. 16𝑛 − 169𝑛 = 0
2
C. 7𝑡 − 8 = 0
Square Root Property
• If 𝑥 2 = 𝑛, and 𝑛 > 0, then 𝑥 = 𝑛 or 𝑥 =
− 𝑛
• Example: 𝑥 2 − 25 = 0
Solution: 𝑥 2 − 25 = 0
𝑥 2 = 25
𝑥 = ± 25
𝑥 = 5 𝑜𝑟 𝑥 = −5
3 Different Methods of
Solving Quadratic Equation
1.Extracting Square Root
2.Factoring
3.Completing the Square
4.Using the Quadratic
Formula
1.Extraction Of Square Root
• Applicable when the equation is in
the form:
2
• 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0 or 𝑚(𝑝𝑥 + 𝑞) + k = 0
2

Example 1:
2
𝑥 −16 =0
2
𝑥 = 16
𝑥 = ± 16
𝑥 = ±4
1.Extraction Of Square Root
• Applicable when the equation
is in the form:
• 𝑎𝑥 + 𝑐 = 0 or 𝑚(𝑝𝑥 + 𝑞) + k = 0

Example 2: 2
2(𝑥 − 1) −8 = 0
2(𝑥 − 1)2 = 8
(𝑥 − 1)2 = 4
𝑥 − 1 = ±2
𝑥 = 2 + 1 = 3 or 𝑥 = −2 + 1 = −1

2. Factoring
• Zero Factor Property
The product AB=0, if A=0 or B=0 or both A
and B are equal to zero.
𝑎𝑥 2 + 𝑏𝑥 + c = 0
𝑥+𝑚 𝑥+𝑛 =0
Where:
𝑚 + 𝑛 = 𝑏 and 𝑚𝑛 = 𝑐
