A Guide For Umrah 2014

Presented by : HFR
Encouragement Towards Performing Hajj

 Allah (SWT) says in Surah Al-Baqarah verse 197:

َّ َ ْ َّ ْ َ َ َ ْ َ َ ٌ ٰ ْ ُ ْ َّ ٌ ُ ْ َ ُّ َ ْ َ
 ‫الحج اشهر معلومت ۚ فمن فرض ِفي ِهن الحج‬

َ ْ َ َ ََ َ ْ ُ ُ ََ َ ََ ََ
 ۭ ‫فَل رفث وَل فسوق ۙوَل ِجدال ِفي الحج‬
ِ
The Hajj is (to be performed in) the months that are well-known. So
whoever undertakes Hajj in them, there should be no obscenity, no
sin, no quarrel in the Hajj.
IHRAAM
 The literal meaning of Ihraam is to make haraam (forbidden).
When a haji pronounces the Niyyah (intention) of Hajj and Umrah
and utters Talbiyah, certain halaal (permissible) things become
haraam for him. This combined action (Niyyah and Talbiyah) is
called Ihraam.

 If someone wears two sheets and does not declare his intention
and utter Talbiyah, he does not become a Muhrim. That is why,
before Niyyah and Talbiyah, he can cover his head during
two rakahs of Nafl, an act which is not allowed in the real state
of Ihraam.
IHRAAM - Procedure
 Purification. Take a bath with the intention of Ihraam
otherwise do wudu. Here it is noted that there are two ways
of purification:

 1) Purification of the body, shower or wudu.

 2) Internal purification, sincere repentance on your sins.

 Preparations for Ihraam. Comb your hair, shape the beard,

trim your mustache, cut your nails, and remove unwanted
body hair.
IHRAAM - Procedure
 Ihraam Sheets. Men should wear a sheet of white cloth
around the waist and cover the upper body with the other
sheet.

 Women's ordinary clothes are their Ihraam.

 Men should wear the flip-flops (hawai chappal) so that the

middle bone of the upper part of the feet are not covered.

 Nafl Salah. If it is not makruh (undesirable) time, offer two

rakahs of nafl for Ihraam by covering your heads.
ADVICE..
 If going to Jeddah by an airplane,
do everything at home or at the
airport except Niyyah (intention) and
Talbiyah.

 Have your shower, put on 2 white

sheets, pray two rakahs of nafl while
covering your head but you are still
not in the status of ihraam
ADVICE..
 In a Hajj flight when you are close to Miqaat, the pilot will announce
that this is the border line to make your intention and to say Talbiyah.
Those who did not change their clothes before should do so now
although it is not convenient inside the plane. Please note that:

 It is a good idea to ask at the time of boarding if the arrival

of Miqaat will be announced by the pilot. If not, make your intention
and say Talbiyah on your own approximately one hour before you
reach Jeddah.

 If you are flying with a group, follow the instructions of the group
leader.
INTENTION
 In airplane before Miqaat uncover your head and declare your
intention (Niyyah).
 The intention for Umrah is:

 (O Allah! I intend to perform Umrah, please make it easy for me and accept it
from me)

 Immediately after that utter the words of Talbiyah three times and
as often afterwards as possible.
TALBIYAH
 The Talbiyah is as follows:

 I am present O Allah! I am present! I am present! You have no partner. I am

present!. Verily all praises and favours belong to You, and all sovereignty. You
have no partner.

 Talbiyah is pronounced in a loud voice by men and in a subdued

voice by women.

 Hadith: Jibrael (A.S.) bringing Allah’s (SWT) message to Prophet

(S.A.W.) to ask Sahaba Karaam to recite talbiyah in loud voice.
TALBIYAH
 Immediately after making the niyyah start reading the Talbiyah. It is
necessary for the Talbiyah to be read straight after the niyyah.

 Now you are in the status of ihraam.

 If this is not done, one’s ihraam remains incomplete, and if the

ihraam is not valid the subsequent Hajj or Umrah too, is null and
void.

 Dua. After this recite Darud Sharif and make dua.

PROHIBITIONS OF IHRAAM
 From this time on you should not do acts that are forbidden in Ihraam.
Some of the things a muhrim must not do:
 Cover head (men), cover face (women)
 Cover the middle bone of the upper part of the feet (Men)
 Shave / cut hair
 Cut nails
 Put on perfume
 Wear stitched clothing (men) / (Women can wear their ordinary
clothes)
 Hunting / killing

 Advice by Hazrat Maulana Pir Zulfiqar Ahmed Naqshbandi(db) :

Best time for Umrah :10pm to 1am. (Soee Haram pg 115 edition 6)
HOW TO PERFORM UMRAH
 Two things that are Faradh in Umrah:
 1) In Ihraam the Niyyah and Talbiyah both are Faradh,
 2) In Tawaaf only the Niyyah is Faradh.

 Two wajib acts in Umrah are:

 1) Sa’ee between Safaa and Marwah
 2) Halaq/Qasar (men), Cutting about an inch long hairs (women)
5 Things to do once reaching Haram
 1) Keep on reciting Talbiyah once entering Haram. It begins after
niyyah and its time finishes before you do Istilaam for the 1st time.

 When performing Umrah, Talbiyah is not recited at all during Tawaaf,

nor it is recited again after Tawaaf.

 Wudu is essential for tawaaf.

 2) Once you enter Haram do niyyah for nafl itekaaf.

 Move towards Baitullah Sharif while keeping your gaze low. Why ?
The dua that you make when you look at the Baitullah Sharif for the
fist time is accepted. (Hadith)
5 Things to do once reaching Haram
 What dua to make? O Allah! Please make me “ mustajaab ud
da’waat” (Iman Abu Hanifa R.A.)

 3) Iztabaa : Pass the upper sheet of Ihraam from underneath the right
arm and put it on the left shoulder. This act bares the right shoulder.

 Niyyah of Tawaaf: Either in the mind or verbally as follows:

 (O Allah! I intend to make Tawaaf of seven circuits around Your House, so make it
easy for me and accept it.)
5 Things to do once reaching Haram
4) Istaqbaal: Stand facing Hajre
Aswad but slightly towards the
left, in such a position that your
right shoulder is in line with it.
Now raise both hands till the ears
(as in salah) and recite:

 (In The Name of Allah. Allah is The

Greatest and all Praises are due unto
Allah.)
5 Things to do once reaching Haram
 5) Istilaam : Now raise your
hands in front of the face with the
palms turned towards hajre
aswad. And recite

 Then kiss both palms beginning

with the right hand.

 Tawaaf begins: After Istilaam,

turn right and start tawaaf
counter clockwise.
 Ramal: To walk at a brisk pace with the shoulders upright and chest out.
This is only done by men for the first three showts or circuits and is Sunnah.

 The End of Tawaaf: At the end of seven circuits, do istilaam of Hajre

Aswad now iztabaa is finished, therefore, you cover your both shoulders
with upper portion of the Ihraam sheet.

 Now offer two rakaats wajib of Tawaaf at any place behind the Maqaame
Ibrahim or anywhere in the masjid and make extensive dua.

 Thereafter go and drink the zamzam and make extensive dua.

SA’EE
 Make istilaam for the 9th
time and move towards
Mount Safaa. It is a Sunnah
to be in the state of wudu
during Sa’ee.

 Climb little bit on the Safa

from where you can see the
Baitullah Sharif, make
niyyah for Sa’ee and make
extensive dua.
Safa & Marwah
 From Safa to Marwah is one crossing, and from Marwah to Safa is
another. In this manner, seven crossings will complete at Marwah.
Milain Akhzarain (Green Lights)
 In all trips men will jog between the green lights but women will walk
in a normal way and recite:
HALAQ OR QASAR
 Offer 2 rakaat nafl.

 Halaq or Qasar: After Sa’ee, men should get their heads completely
shaved (Halaq) or get their hair clipped (Qasar).

 Women have to clipped their hairs 2-3cms (1 inch approx).

 Umrah is complete and restrictions of ihraam are finished.

 Nafl Tawaaf: No Ihraam, no Ramal, no Iztabaa and even no Sa’ee.

You have to offer 2 rakat wajib for tawaaf at the end.
