CHAPTER IV

PRESENTATION AND
INTERPRETATION OF DATA
This chapter presents, analyzes, and interprets
the data gathered through the questionnaires. The
findings are presented according to the sequential
order of the problems stated in Chapter 1, an
assessment of the health benefit of malunggay in
Barangay, Carillo, Hagonoy, Bulacan.
Introduction

The respondents for the study are the residents of Barangay

Carillo, Hagonoy, Bulacan. The sample population is composed of 50
individuals who are currently residing in the barangay with age ranges
from 18 to 30 years, male and female.
Descriptive statistics is used to describe the profiles of the
respondents. This includes the age, gender, educational attainment, head
of the family, source of income, and monthly income of the family. This is
used for the type of data gathered. On the other hand, descriptive and
inferential statistics are used for the factors – physiologic, mental, sexual,
financial and environmental - that describe the level of awareness of the
respondents on the health benefits of malungggay. Weighted means and
the standard deviations for each item under each factor are computed. To
test the significant effect of each factor, test for sample distribution of
means is used.
The computation for the Z values is given by the formula

Z = (µ - µ0)
σ/√n
where µ = the computed weighted mean
µ0 = the compared value for the mean
σ = the standard deviation of the population
n = total number of population
To determine if there are significant differences among the profiles
and the factors, chi square test is used. It is computed using the formula
χ² = (n-1) s² / σ²
where n = sample size
s² = sample variance
σ² = population variance

The following describes the profiles of the respondents that may be
useful for the analyses of the results.

has significant effect in the level of awareness of the respondents; otherwise, it is not
significant. Based on the calculations, aspects under each source of family income are
all significant. This means that source of family income does not affect the level of
awareness about the benefits of Malunggay.

Table 24 shows the test for chi-square of each family monthly income and the
aspects. Chi-square test is used to test if the differences among the family monthly
income have significant effects in the levels of awareness on each aspects. The χ² values
are computed and compared to the Accepted values of χ² which are given in the table.
The χ² value was from the statistical table using the 5% error. If the χ² value falls in the
Accepted value, the factor is significant, which means that this factor has significant
effect in the level of awareness of the respondents; otherwise, it is not significant. Based
on the calculations, physiological aspects, and mental aspects under family monthly
income are all significant. This means that family monthly income does not affect the
level of awareness about the benefits of Malunggay regarding the physiological aspects,
and mental aspects. On the other hand, sexual aspects, financial aspects and
environmental aspects under each of the family monthly income brackets are not all
significant. It means that family monthly income affects the level of awareness about the
benefits of Malunggay regarding the sexual aspects, financial aspects and environmental
aspects. Respondents of different family monthly income brackets have different
perceptions on the level of awareness about the benefits of Malunggay regarding the
sexual aspects, financial aspects and environmental aspects.
