• Dr. Shekhar Saxena, director of WHO’s department for mental health,
said WHO accepted the proposal that Gaming Disorder should be
listed as a new problem based on scientific evidence ( June 2018).
• Dr. Joan Harvey, a spokeswoman for the British Psychological
Society, said only a minority of gamers would be affected by the
disorder.

“The studies suggest that when these individuals are engrossed in Internet
games, certain pathways in their brains are triggered in the same direct
and intense way that a drug addict’s brain is affected . “The gaming
prompts a neurological response that influences feelings of pleasure
and reward, and the result, in the extreme, is manifested as addictive
behavior.”

Biological models of addiction emphasize the importance of genetics
and the biological forces of nature. These theories suggest that brain
chemistry, brain structure, and genetic abnormalities cause
human behaviour. Some people may have a deficiency in their
capacity to resist certain types of impulses. Thus, these folks would be
at greater risk for developing an addiction because of their genetic
vulnerability.

Psychopathological model sees mental disorders as the cause of

addiction. These disorders might include cognitive difficulties,

essentials of life.

harmful substance or behaviour.
4. Relationship difficulties, which often involve lashing out at people who
identify the dependency.
5. An inability to stop using a substance or subject, though it may be
causing health problems or personal problems, such as issues with
employment or relationships.
6. Hiding substances or behaviors and otherwise exercising secrecy, for
example, by refusing to explain injuries that occurred while under the
influence.
7. Profound changes in appearance, including a noticeable
abandonment of hygiene
