Background
• Tata Power, established in 1910, pioneered the
generation of electricity in India.
• Tata Power is India’s largest integrated private
power company.
• India’s Second hydro-electric project in 1915
in Khopoli for 72 MW. Then second and third
power plants were installed in Bhivpuri (75 MW)
in 1919 and Bhira (300 MW) in 1922.
• Tata Power commissioned the installation of
India’s first 500 MW unit at Trombay.

Need For ERP
Company invested in technology so that it can
strengthen data analytics ability and digital
transformation could be a solution to address power
theft; Meter & distribution equipment tempering;
transmission& distribution losses, load management
issues and malfunction of distribution and
transmission substations.
Through technological innovation it is possible to
deliver energy competitively at the remotest areas and
grant power to the 300 million who are still without
electricity.
SAP was the only company with an ERP solution
for Power Sector, hence become obvious choice.
What is ERP?
• An enterprise system, also known as enterprise
resource planning (ERP) system, is a cross-
functional information system that provides
organization-wide coordination and integration of
the key business processes and helps in planning
the resources of an organization.

• ERP is essentially a reporting technology, a way to


store and share large volume of information in
accessible form. ERP systems helps to connect the
wider-enterprise, allowing for resource capacity
planning, job costing, asset tracking, production
planning, shop floor management, logistics,
accounts receivables & payables.

• ERP was implemented by Tata’s in 2001-02.
• The first utility company in India to implement
SAP
• Implementation Partner's – Tata Technologies
• The ERP package used by Tata’s included
power generation, distribution, procurement,
vendor management, billing, cash receipts and
payments, and finance.

to manage various business processes (e.g. HR,
Finance &, Accounts, Procurement etc).

and transferred to central PI server for MIS reporting
• MIS software with make & check arrangement for
automation of MIS Data flow
• Parameters available on Central PI server transferred to IT
system on daily basis for reporting
• Web based dashboard
LEARNINGS
In a vast country like India, power asset
management, consumer services is a major
issue. In such a scenario, digitization and use of
technology is important to ensure 24X7
uninterrupted supplies to the consumers & to
improve compliance with regulatory
requirements as well as to improve operational
efficiency.
The real time data is configured and errors
arising out of manual verification processes are
eliminated.
