declined by half at the global level.

✧✧ In developing regions, the proportion of people

living on less than $1.25 a day fell from 47 percent in
1990 to 22 per cent in 2010, five years ahead of
schedule.

✧✧ While the proportion of undernourished people

globally decreased from 23.2 percent in 1990-1992 to
14.9 per cent in 2010-2012, this still leaves 870 million
people—one in eight worldwide—going hungry.
 Food Fortification Program
Fortification as defined by Codex Alimentarius

to food, whether or not it is normally contained
in the food, for the purpose of preventing or
correcting a demonstrated deficiency of one or
more nutrients in the population or specific
population groups”

 VAD affects
children’s proper growth, resistance to
infection, and chances of survival (23 to
35% increased child mortality), severe
deficiency results to blindness.
Iron and Iron Deficiency
Anemia (IDA)
 condition where there is lack of iron in the
body resulting to low hemoglobin
concentration of the blood
 IDA results in premature delivery,
increased maternal mortality, reduce
ability to fight infection and transmittable
diseases and low productivity
Iodine and Iodine Deficiency
Disorders (IDD)
 refers to a group of clinical entities
caused by inadequacy of dietary iodine
for the thyroid hormone resulting into
various condition e.g. goiter, cretinism,
mental retardation, loss of IQ points
ASIN LAW

What exactly is MSG?

 MSG, or Monosodium Glutamate is a salt

of the amino acid - Glutamic Acid
(glutamate). A salt is the chemical name
for a molecule held together by opposite
charges. Basically one (mono) sodium
atom is "stuck" to the amino acid
glutamate.
Properties of MSG
 MSG tricks your tongue into making you
think a certain food is high in protein and
thus nutritious.
 MSG stimulates the pancreas to produce
insulin

Target 4.A: Reduce by two-thirds, between 1990 and 2015, the under-five mortality rate

-Between 1990 and 2015, the global under-five mortality rate has declined
by more than half, dropping from 90 to 43 deaths per 1000 live births.
-Between 1990 and 2015, the number of deaths in children under five
worldwide declined from 12.7 million in 1990 to almost 6 million in 2015.
-Children in rural areas are about 1.7 times more likely to die before their fifth
birthday as those in urban areas.
-Children of mothers with secondary or higher education are almost three
times as likely to survive as children of moths with no education.
-While Sub-Saharan Africa has the world’s highest child mortality rate, the
absolute decline in child mortality has been the largest over the past two
decades.
-Every day in 2015, 16,000 children under five continue to die, mostly from
preventable causes. Child survival must remain a focus of the new
sustainable development agenda
