Biography of Rizal
• Jose Rizal was born on June 19, 1861
in Calamba, Laguna, Philippines as
Jose Protacio Rizal Mercado Y Alonso
Realonda.
• He was a writer, known for El
filibusterismo (1962), Sisa(1951) and
Noli me tangere (1930).
• He died on December 30, 1896 in
Bagumbayan [now Luneta], Manila,
Philippines.

hero of the Philippines.
• He was the one who led the
Filipinos to start a revolution
against the Spanish Government
to attain freedom and to gain
control of the country.

• The story line goes detailed with the society of
the Philippines during Spanish colonial period
and features aristocracy behind poverty and
abuse of colonialists.

• The title Noli Me Tangere is a Latin phrase
which means “Touch Me Not.
• Rizal dedicated his Noli Me Tangere to the
Philippines – “To My Fatherland.”
The Purpose of Noli Me Tangere
• The reader's get acquainted with the social
forces which opposes each other, thus
preventing the realization of Rizal's aspiration
for the Filipinos to regain their human rights,
especially human dignity, justice and freedom.
