Disk Clean-up

Cleaning up and organizing disk space


an essential maintenance task to keep
your system functions in optimum
working condition.
Allows users to remove files that are no
longer needed or that can be safely
deleted.
What does Disk Clean-up do?

> It searches old temporary files, obsolete


installation files, log files, internet history and
cache, error reports, save offline content and
error logs on your computer.

How to remove unwanted files?
1.By using mouse/ touch screen

> Go to Settings, then Control Panel, then


type Admin into the search box, click
Administrative Tools then click Disk Cleanup.

>Click on START
Button, type Disk
Cleanup in the
search box, then
click DISK Cleanup
Once testing is
completed, you can
chose which file to
delete. As you
select/deselect each
option, you can see
the TOTAL space
you will save.
How to view and delete temporary
files

* Open Start Menu > %temp% > enter.


Temp folder should open then delete all
the files found in this folder. Then
RESTART the computer to see the
improvement in the performance of the
computer.
To search for the .tmp files
In the start menu, click Start button>
Find> Find Files or Folders>*.tmp> Find
now. (delete all files that are found )
Note: verify that the Look in section of the
search box is pointing to the C: and not
document folders.
To verify the temporary folder on the hard drive is
empty:
1. Double Click My Computer icon.
2. Double click on the C: drive
3. Double click on the Temp folder
4. Close window and re-open My computer
5. Double click C: drive
6. Double click windows folders
7. Double click Temp folder and verify that all files in
this folder are deleted.
To Open Microsoft Disk Cleanup:

( Windows 8 and 10 )
1. Press Windows Key + X to open the
Power User Task Menu
2. In the menu, click or tap Run option.
3. In the Run text field, type cleanmgr
and press enter
Windows 7 and earlier
1. Open the Start Menu
2. Click on Programs>Accessories>System
Tools
3. In System tools, click Disk Cleanup utility
OR
1. Open Start Menu
2. Click Run Option
3. In the Run text field, type cleanmgr and press
Enter
