Religion

Is a personal or institutional belief in and


reverence for a supernatural power or
powers regarded as creator and governor of
the universe.

May be defined as a cultural system of


designated behaviors and
practices, worldviews, texts, sanctified
places, prophecies, ethics, or organizations, that
relates humanity to supernatural, transcendental,
or spiritual elements.
ELEMENTS OF RELIGION

Monistic
There is no real distinction between God and
the universe.
Polytheistic
Belief and worship of many Gods.

Monotheistic

Belief and worship of one supreme God.

Atheistic

No belief in God.
Characteristics of Religion
Wisdom / Creed Set of truths which is widely
accepted in their religion.

To praise a supreme leader. Worship / Cult

Works / Code Set of moral teachings and


values that all religions have in
some form.
