organism that comprises either a single cell
(unicellular), cell clusters, or multicellular
relatively complex organisms .
HOW DO WE USE MICROBES IN OUR DAILY LIFE ?
• WE USE IN OUR DAILY LIFE LIKE :
• MAKING LEATHER
• MAKING FOOD
• THEY ARE SPARYED ON CROPS
• THEY ARE USED IN HEALTH
• THEY ARE USED IN HOUSEHOLD PRODUCTS
• THEY ARE USED IN ANIMAL PRODUCTION
WHY ARE MICROBES USEFUL TO US ?
• Microorganisms are used in brewing, winemaking, baking, pickling and other
food-making processes.

They are also used to control the fermentation process in the production of
cultured dairy products such as yogurt and cheese. The cultures also provide
flavour and aroma, and inhibit undesirable organisms.

Use in water treatment

Microbes are used in the biological treatment of sewage and industrial waste
effluents
Use in energy
Microbes are used in fermentation to produce ethanol.

WHAT ARE THE TYPES OF MICROBES ?
• BACTERIA
• VIRUS
• FUNGI
• PROTOZOA
IN WHAT WAY ARE THEY HARMFUL ?
FOOD POISING

Bacteria are the cause of many foodborne illnesses resulting from

undercooked or unwashed food. Examples of these are Escherichia coli
(E. coli) found in beef and unwashed vegetables and Salmonella enterica
commonly found in chicken.

WOUND INFECTION
Bacteria may also cause sepsis in untreated wounds and cuts. If left
untreated, these infections can lead to loss of limbs and even death.
Examples of these types of bacteria include Clostridium perfringens
(gangrene) and Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA)
