What is a
?
 Self is a reality which is mysterious and
complex.
 Self is made up entirely of a stream of
consciousness, a constant flow of many
experiences and inner feelings.

What is a
?
Two Basic Types of Self
 Ego self (self-enclosed reality) – exists by itself separated
from all other beings. It is permanent that maintains a
certain basic identity as time passes.
 Person self (personal self) – refers to the free individual
(free person) who is in control of his/her life and s/he is
responsible with his/her own life.

Characteristics of Ego self
Ability to identify itself with various other realities (body, accomplishments, family,
home, country, teams, barkada, religion)
 Associate to different roles that we live in our lives. Roles that give us a sense of
who we are. Roles that give us a certain understanding.

Understanding the
Self-concept It refers to the composite ideas, feelings, and attitudes people have
about themselves. It refers to the sum of a complex, organized, and
dynamic system of learned beliefs, attitudes, and opinions that each
person holds to be true about his/her personal existence

Self-knowledge It refers to ability to understand oneself (one’s own motives or


character)
Self-image It refers to individual’s conceptualization of his/her mental and physical
characteristics. It refers to the idea one has of one’s abilities,
appearance, and personality
Self-awareness It refers to the conscious knowledge of one’s own character, feelings,
motives, and desires.
