Thanksgiving is a day of giving thanks in


America. It is celebrated at the end of
November. People watch parades and
eat a special meal with their families.
St. Patrick’s Day

Every March 17, the Irish dress in green, march in parades and eat green clover-
shaped cookies to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day.
Kwanzaa

Kwanzaa means “First Fruits.” It celebrates


family life and togetherness. This holiday is
celebrated by African Americans. It starts on
December 26 and ends on January 1.
Basant

In Pakistan, boys celebrate the first day of spring in their calendar


with kite-fighting contests.
May Day

To celebrate the return of spring, children in England dance around tall


poles decorated with ribbons, called maypoles. Their dancing wraps the
ribbons tightly around the pole.
Day of the Dead

On November 1, Mexicans remember their loved ones who have


died by visiting them and having a meal in the cemetery.
