What is
CNC? COMPUTER NUMERICAL CONTROL CNC CONTROLS ARE ALSO CNC IS A COMPUTER ASSISTED
(CNC) IS THE NUMERICAL CONTROL REFERRED TO AS SOFTWIRED NC PROCESS TO CONTROL GENERAL
SYSTEM IN WHICH A DEDICATED SYSTEMS BECAUSE MOST OF PURPOSE MACHINES FROM
COMPUTER IS BUILT INTO THE THEIR CONTROL FUNCTIONS ARE INSTRUCTIONS GENERATED BY A
CONTROL TO PERFORM BASIC AND IMPLEMENTED BY THE CONTROL PROCESSOR AND STORED IN A
ADVANCED NC FUNCTIONS. SOFTWARE PROGRAMS. MEMORY SYSTEM.

Applications of CNC Machine in Electronics
Manufacturing

• The machines controlled by CNC can be classified into the following categories:

1. CNC fabrication machines (sheet metal punch press, bending machine, or press
brake)
2. CNC mills and machining centers
3. Pick and Place CNC machines
4. LASER engraving and cutting CNC machine
Computer numerically controlled (CNC)
punching is a sheet metal manufacturing
CNC fabrication process that is carried out by CNC punch
presses.

machines (sheet
metal punch The CNC punching machine is basically
programmed to move a sheet of metal in an x
press) and y direction so as to accurately position the
sheet under the machine’s punching ram ready
to punch a hole or form.

Information about a design may be presented in

a 2D format such as DXF or DWG files or a 3D file
format. This information is then used to create
the flat sheet metal pressing and assign the
correct tooling to create the desired component.
PCB Milling in CNC
• PCB milling is the method which involves removing the unwanted
copper from the board to create paths, and signal traces according
to the layout design.
ADVANTAGES:
• PCB milling process comes with a lot of benefits because it involves
no hazardous chemical and is an ideal choice for mass production.
• Best part is that CNC milling can be used for multiple purpose i.e
milling, drilling and cutting.
• You can change the bits based on your needs and requirements.
• Some PCB boards that are easy to create using PCB milling process
are very difficult to create using wet etching process that also
involves manual drilling afterwards which costs lot more than
regular milling process.
Pick & Place CNC Machines
• SMT (surface mount technology) component placement systems,
commonly called pick-and-place machines or P&Ps,
are CNC machines which are used to place surface-mount
devices (SMDs) onto a printed circuit board (PCB).
• They are used for high speed, high precision placing of broad range
of electronic components, like capacitors, resistors, integrated
circuits onto the PCBs
• Used in computers, consumer electronics as well as industrial,
medical, automotive, military and telecommunications equipment

ADVANTAGES
• Removes hassles of hand assembly as components and boards are
getting smaller
• Shorten development cycle
• Consistency and accuracy
CNC Laser Engraving
Laser marking is a modern, highly flexible and efficient solution
for indelibly tagging of diverse industrial products. When
combined with modern PC technology, undreamed-of possibilities
become available for the labelling of your products.
Lettering, logos, serial numbers, bar codes, data matrices as well
as graphics can even be applied to curved surfaces. Likewise,
radial and 3D engravings are also possible.
Laser marking is a rapid and precise marking process.
Laser marking advantages
• Permanent
• Contactless
• Fast
• Force-free
• Contour accuracy and precise
• Forgery-proof
