AUTONOMOUS CAR
• What is an autonomous car??
• An autonomous car is a vehicle that can guide itself
without human conduction. It can be also called
driverless car,robotic car,self-driving car or
autonomous vehicle.
• As an autonomous vehicle,it is capable of seeing it's
enviroment and navigatting without human input.
• The first self sufficient and truly autonomous car
appeared in the 1980s.
What consists in an autonomous
car??
•Radar
•Optics
•LIDAR
•GPS
•Processors
•Wheel speed sensors
RADAR
• Traditional RADAR sensors are used to detect
dangerous objects in the vehicle's path that
are more than 100m away.
• Accident-prevention system triggers when
they detect something in a blind car's spot.
• The radar chirps between 10 to 11GHz over a
5 millisized period ,transmitting the radar
signal from a centrally locked antenna cone.
OPTICS
• A camera mounted near the rear view mirror
build a real time 3D images of the road
ahead,spotting hazards like pedestrains and
animals.
• It is also used to identify road makings and traffic
signals.
LIDAR
• The light detection and ranging(LIDAR)
which is mounted on the roof of the vehicle
is the most important device of an
automous vehicles.
• The LIDAR consists of an emitter, mirror and
receiver.
• The emitter sends out a laser that bounces
off a mirror that is rotating along with the
cylindrical housing at 10 revolutions per
minute.
• After bouncing off objects, the laser beam return to
the mirror and is bounced back towards, where it
can be interpreted into data.
• The vehicle can generate a map of it's surroundings
and use the map to avoid objects.
PROCESSORS

• Some 7 dual core 2.13GHz processors and 2GB of

ram are needed to make sense of the data
collected by the cars instruments.
• Some cars run as 17 processors to dispense the
computing load.
Wheel Speed sensors
• Wheel speed sensors measure the road wheel
speed and direction of rotation.
• These sensors provide input to a number of
different automotive systems including the anti-
lock brake system and electronic stability control.
Advantages of autonomous car
• Hands free parallel parkings
• Sensors will analyse parking space and
automatically steer your vehicle intlo place. This
driver continous to control the brakes and
acclerator.
• Lane control
• Technology that can detect when you are drifting
out of your lane and gently corrects your postion
on road
• Assistant braking
• Using front mount radar vehicle can detect when
there is a hazard ahead on the road and apply the
brakes to help prevent the accident.
• Adaptive cruise control
• Automatically braking and accelerating in order to
maintain a safe distance to the traffic ahead while
in cruise control.
• Reduction in car accidents.
• Reduction in the need for traffic and vehicle
insurance.
• Reduction in car theft, due to the vehicles self
awareness.
Disadvantages of autonomous car

• Chances of hacking.
• Failure of sensors leads to accidents.
• The jobs of the drivers will be gone.
• The spare parts of the vehicles are too costly so
that the middle class people cannot afford it.
• The system might malfunction if the sensor gets
damaged.
• Regular maintance is a must thing.
