Immunization(infectious and diseases)

• Children should be
protected against serious
infectious diseases.
Children must be
immunized against all
diseases.
Childhood Illnesses
• Croup – labored breathing accompanied by
loud hacking cough and hoarseness, which
often occurs at night.
• German Measles(Rubella)- painful swelling of
glands behind the eras.
• Measles- early symptoms early fever
accompanied by slight hacking cough, fatigue,
discomfort, and eye irritation.
• Mumps- swollen gland on one or both sides of
jaw accompanied by headache and fever
• Pneumonia- coughing plus fever; rapid
breathing and discomfort; chills and weakness
• Scarlet Fever- painful sore throat
accompanied by fever, nausea, and vomiting.
Within 3 days a fine rash appears on neck,
armpit and groin, them spread over the body.
• Tonsillitis - Painful sore throat, fever, tender
swollen glands under sides of jaws, refusal to
eat and drink, nausea, vomiting.
• Whooping Cough- dry persistent cough for 7
to 14 days becoming a whoop in older
children, water runny nose, and child
distresses and exhausted, vomiting
Under the Armpit

• Place the bulb of the


thermometer high under the
armpit and support it by pressing
the child’s arm against his or her
chest. After about two minutes,
read the thermometer.
In the Groin

• Place the bulb of the


thermometer in the skin
fold of the groin and gently
hold the legs of the child
together.
In the Rectum

• Gently slip the bulb of the


thermometer through the
anus into the rectum(about
25mm) and support in
there for one minute
Feeling for the Pulse
• The heart of a young child beats from 90 to
110 times each minute while that of an older
child, 80 to 100 times each minute. Each
heartbeat forces blood around the arteries of
the body and can be felt as pressure wave
over several points of the body.
• Common place to feel the pulse is the wrist.
• Neck is another area in your body where
pulse can be felt.
Above the Collarbone

•Hook your index finger


over the top of the
child’s collarbone and
gently press into the
soft depression above.
In the Arm

• Hold the upper arm as


shown in the diagram and
gently press your index and
middle fingers against the
antecubital fossa.
The Groin

•Gently press the index


and middle fingers
over the middle of the
groin fold.
