What is Water?
• Water is made of tiny molecules of
hydrogen and oxygen
• Each one is so small that you can’t see it
even with the most powerful microscope
• Pure water has no color, no taste and
doesn’t smell of anything
Water exists in three forms on the Earth:
1. SOLID
 ice
 snow
 frost

2. LIQUID
 lakes
 oceans
 rain
 dew
 fog or mist

3. GAS
 steam or water vapor

Uses of Water
• Living things needs water to survive
• It is used for producing electricity
• It is home to aquatic animals and plants
• Plants need it to prepare in presence of sunlight
• Human beings need water to cook food
• It is used for washing and cleaning
• It is used for transportation
WATER AND HUMAN BEINGS
• Water helps in making blood
• It keeps our body cool during summer by
making us sweat
• It throws wastes from our body in the
form of urine
• It quenches our thirst

• Plant need water for their survival and


growth
• They make their food with the help of water,
sunlight, carbon dioxide and green pigment
(chlorophyll) in their leaves
WATER AND ANIMALS
• Aquatic life: the word “aqua” means water
• Animals that leave in water are called aquatic
animals
• Animals in both land and water need water for
survival and growth
How much water do we need?
• Most people need about 6-8 glasses of water each day
• Inadequate fluid intake can lead to constipation and
dehydration
• Caffeine-containing beverages (coffee, tea, colas, etc.)
should not be drunk because caffeine actually causes
you to lose water
• More water may be needed during times of fever or
illness
