3. CASE ANALYSIS
 Shekhar, a young graduate narrates his professional life story.
 He sheds light on the challenges faced by him in terms of his
behavioural and relational issues with his colleagues and higher
officials.
 He initially applied for a job @DPC (Data Processing Consultants)
where he met Mr. Dev Sharma for the first time.
 He was interviewed and offered a job of EDP officer by Mr. Sharma
@Sharma Industries.
 In due course of time, he switched different departments:

Sales Purchase
EDP Spinning work
Department Department

 He had an abrupt end to his job @Sharma industries due to

organizational mismanagement.
4.PROBLEM-1
Comment on the management style of Mr. Dev Sharma. How does it
facilitate or hinder the building up of a professional organization?
Old Mr. Dev Sharma
 Could identify enthusiastic and sincere employees. (appointed Shekhar as EDP officer)
 Trusted new employees to prosper. (trusted Shekhar and Roy)
 was very particular/ specific in his judgements. (made Shekhar sign a bond of 3.5 years)
 Made new employees comfortable initially. (gave workflow direction to Shekhar on joining)
 Took key responsibilities himself. (Ledgers Reprinting)

New Mr. Dev Sharma

 Became greedy and vindictive. (Reminded Shekhar of his contractual obligations of Rs.
5000)
 Got influenced by overheard rumours. (believed Mr. Roy’s private reporting about Shekhar)
 Dictated over other subordinate employees. (transferred Shekhar to Sales Dept.)
 Took opinions from biased employees. (heard Mr. Shah and Roy in the confidential meeting)
5. PROBLEM-2
Comment on Mr. Shekhar’s comment : “Good practices
take years to sink in , but bad practices spread like
wildfire.”
 Spoken by: Shekhar
 Context: Confidential meeting on Shekhar.
 This was a retaliatory mental statement cursing the management
system at Sharma Industries as he got to know about the
confidential meeting.
 Shekhar’s future at the organisation was decided by a bunch officials
most of which were biased like (Mr. Shah & Roy) in the Confidential
Meeting.
 Even the opinion of Mr. Dev’s steno was valued before taking the
final decision.
 Shekhar strongly felt that if he didn’t resist such meetings to be
held then another employee might have to face the same fate.
6. PROBLEM-3
(a) Comment on the Dynamics of relation between Mr.
Shekhar and Mr. Dev Sharma.
 Smooth and of good conduct in the beginning.
 Sekhar regained trust in Mr. Dev when he
himself collected all data and sorted out ledger
mistakes.
 Strong retaliation from Shekhar for not being
paid overtime despite his hard work.
 Sekhar got irritated by Mr. Dev Sharma’s
acceptance of personal reporting.
 Repeated transfer of department made it really
challenging for Shekhar to sustain
 Organising confidential meetings on Shekhar by
taking suggestions from a biased group of
officials headed to the messy denouncement.
(b) How could their relationship have avoided the messy
denouncement both of them were faced with in the end?

 By considering each other’s opinion

 Accepting Sekhar’s demand of increment & timely payment
 By appreciating Shekhar’s talent and efforts rather than
punishing him
 By promoting him to higher rank within the EDP department
rather than transferring him to different departments.
 By neutral response towards overheard rumors and proper
communication.
7. CONCLUSION
 The major challenges identified in the given case are:

1. Trust Issues
2. Untimely payment to employees
3. Miscommunication leading to conflicts
4. Faulty Boss-Employee Relationship
5. Wrong input to managerial decisions
6. Unacceptable rumors and myths
7. Unnecessary competition among employees (Crab Mentality)
