Brokenness: Key Verse
Brokenness: Key Verse
07/24/2019
Psalm 34:18
“The sacrifices of
God are a broken
spirit: a broken and
a contrite heart, O
God, you will not
despise.”
In the spiritual sense,
brokenness is the condition
of being completely subdued
and humbled before the
Lord, and as result,
completely yielded and
dependent upon Him also.
Being broken in the sight
of God
Brokenness in God’s eyes,
is to be broken, crushed,
and torn in spirit over sin.
•2 Samuel 12
• *13
Then David said to
Nathan, “I have sinned
against the Lord.”
David, a man after God’s own heart, a
warrior with his band of mighty men,
the greatest king to ever reign in
Israel. And we find him, his larger-
than-life status diminished, his great
attributes out of the limelight, his sin
highlighted. David, the man we
rightfully respect and look up to as an
example in our Christian lives, is a
sinner. David, in this moment, has
been reduced to a liar, an adulterer
and a murderer.
Proverbs 13:15 says, “The way of
the transgressor is hard.”
- David cried out to the Lord for
mercy to cleanse him from his sin.
- He admitted his being sinful since
birth
- He desired to be clean again, to be
pure, to be forgiven.
- He wanted his relationship with
God restored.
Psalm 51:10-12
“Create in me a pure heart, O
God, and renew a steadfast spirit
within me. Do not cast me from
your presence or take Your Holy
Spirit from me. Restore to me the
joy of your salvation and grant
me a willing spirit, to sustain
me.”
Psalm 57:15
For this is what the high and
lofty One says – He who lives
forever, whose name is holy:
“I live in a high and holy
place but also with him
who is contrite and and
lowly in spirit.”
Matthew 11:28-29
Psalm 32:9
”Do not be like the horse or the mule,
which have no understanding
but must be controlled by bit and
bridle or they will not come to you.”
• God breaks us in order to re-make
us into what He wants us to be.
2 Timothy 2:20-21
Now in a great house there are not only
vessels of gold and silver but also of wood and
clay, some for honorable use, some for
dishonorable. Therefore, if anyone cleanses
himself from what is dishonorable, he will be
a vessel for honorable use, set apart as holy,
useful to the master of the house, ready for
every good work.
• TheLord draws near to comfort
us while we are broken.
Luke 4:18
The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he hath anointed me to preach
the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to
heal the brokenhearted, to preach
deliverance to the captives, and
recovering of sight to the blind, to set at
liberty them that are bruised.
God warns us against being
hard and unbroken.
Proverbs 28:14 --Blessed is the one
who always trembles before God, but
whoever
hardens their heart falls into
trouble.
