DEFORESTATION
 Recycling of paper: paper is made from the pulp of trees.
We can imagine how many lakhs of trees are being cut
every year to make paper, use for our studies and are
also often wasted in useless activities.

the various ways in which paper can be saved are like-


o write on both sides of paper.
o Avoid wastage of paper.
o Recycle paper.

 Reforestation: planting of new trees where forests have
been destroyed is called reforestation. if the destroyed
forest area is left undisturbed, natural reforestation
takes place.
in India, the following acts deal with the conservation of
forests.
1. Forest (conversation) act, 1980
2. Wildlife (protection) act, 1972
the two main aims of these acts are:
 To preserve and conserve forests
 To meet the basic needs of the people living in or near the
forests.
Flora and fauna

the term flora is used to indicate the different plants


growing in a particular area. The animals found in that
area form the fauna.
Flora of a particular area is represented by plants like
mango, sunflower, jamun, pea etc. while animals like cow,
elephant, dog, crow etc. constitute the fauna of that area.

 Biosphere: biosphere is that part of the earth which


supports life or where living organisms exist. It includes
land, water and air.
 ecosystem: the term ecosystem includes all the living
organisms along with the non-living components such as
climate, soil, carbon dioxide, oxygen, nitrogen, etc. of an
area.
