RATIONALE

Improving and configure the design and performance of the

existing energy generating speed hump by changing the direct
load receiver which is commonly a rack mechanism into
hydraulic system.
CONCEPTUAL FRAMEWORK

Energy Generating
Hydraulic Speed Breaker

Improvement of
existing electricity
producing speed
hump

Stiffness of Hardness of the

Springs Speed Breaker
Hydraulic Cylinder
Displacer
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 How high can we develop the performance of an

energy generating speed breaker compared to the
existing power collecting device?

 How much force will the fluid transmit to the rack as

various load will be applied?

 What will be the load capacity of the speed breaker?

OBJECTIVES

 To develop a machine configuration from rack and

pinion mechanism into hydraulic mechanism.
 To develop a comparative design for installment of an
electric generating hump between existing hump
generators.
 To store and generate electricity in which the can be
used to power the streetlights within the area.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

 To the researchers

 To the residences

 To the future researchers

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

 Focuses in the design of hydraulic and gear

mechanisms

 Limited only to the mechanical principles

 Will not cater civil and electrical concepts of the study

RELATED LITERATURE

 In an article from the International Journal for Research in Applied Science

and Engineering Technology Vol.5 Issue 2, entitled “Power Generation by
Speed Breaker” by Jari et al written on February 2017, the rack and pinion
mechanism is used as the primary load receiver.

 In the study of Ravivarma et al on 2013 entitled “Power Generation using

Hydraulic Mechanism at Speed Bumper”, the hydraulic mechanism used
worked as a simple acting cylinder discharges the oil for each stroke.
RELATED STUDIES

 The study of Nawaz et al on 2014 entitled “Design and Fabrication of

Electricity Generation from Speed Breaker”, described the conversion of
reciprocating motion of the rack into rotary motion of the gears.

 In the research of Rao et al on 2014 entitled “Power Generation from

Speed Breaker by Rack and Ratchet Mechanism”, the spring mechanism
is discussed.
