What is art?

-derived from the latin word “ars”, meaning

ability or skill.
-Covers those areas of artistic creativity that
seek to communicate beauty primarily
through the senses.
-Almost all human activities imply that
anything accomplished with great skill is art.
-Beauty alone is not art, but art can be
made of, about or for beautiful things.
• The purpose of works of art may be to
communicate ideas, such as in politically,
spiritually, or philosophically motivatedart; to
create a sense of beauty (see aesthetics); to
explore the nature of perception; for pleasure;
or to generate strong emotions.
The purpose may also be seemingly
nonexistent.
