Emphasis:
 Folk Songs – Filipino traditional songs that has been passed down orally.
It expresses the people’s everyday activities, customs and beliefs in a
particular place/ community or region which are put together as music
are considered part of the Philippine culture.
Ex. Magtanim ay di biro, Atin Ku Pong Singsing, Sarungbanggi

 Kundiman- “art of Filipino love songs” Traditional Filipino song that


expresses sentiment of love, heroism, passion with melancholic mood
- contraction of “kung hindi man” which means “ though I am not worthy.
- follows ¾ time signature
Ex. Ang Tangi kong Pag-ibig, Pilipinas Kong Mahal

 Harana- Traditional practice of serenade/ courtship through a song.


- Modern Harana singing songs to your love ones, family,
birthdays, anniversary, special occasions, not only courtship.
- follows 2/4 time signature
