Willingness to engage - An individuals willingness or persistence to stay
engaged in making sense of unfamiliar social
situations. (Early & Ang, 2003)
Cognitive flexibility and openness – An important skill that is related to openness
and adaptability.
Emotional Regulation – This construct is similar to the lay term, self control.
Tolerance for uncertainty – Is a general disposition that
broadly influences cognition, attitudes and behaviour.
Self-efficacy – Is a focal point of Bandura’s social cognitive theory. (Bandura, 1997)
Ethnocultural empathy - Is a variable that has been discussed in the literature as important
to cross cultural communication. (Abbe et al. 2007)

Interpersonal relationship domain – Measures eight
variables of intercultural readiness and these are:
relationship effectiveness motivation, trust,
openness, comfort with strangers, ethnic inclusion,
communication control and self worth in a new
culture.

Cultural adaptation domain – This domain


measures five variables of intercultural readiness
and these are: Flexibility, transition, acculturation
motivation, adaptability, and risks and innovation.

Family relationship domain – This domain measures


only two variables of intercultural readiness and
these are: Family adaptability and family openness

Previous experience domain – This domain


measures one variable of intercultural readiness
which is previous travel.
Situational Judgement Test

Ethnocentrism is about an individual judging


another group relative to their own ethnic group or
culture, especially with concern for language,
behaviour, customs, and religion to which a person
is judgmental of other cultures and unwilling.

Empathy it is the capability to share your feelings


and understand another's emotion and feelings

Analysis of Data

Cross Cultural Competence of the


Respondents
Stratified random sampling will be
used to draw twenty (20)
respondents
Each student are given three
(3) different types of
questionnaire. Cross cultural
communication inventory,
Intercultural readiness
assessment and Situational
judgement test.
The recorded data will be rated through
a five point scale based on the answers of
the respondents along with the three (3)
questionnaires.

Family
The study was to measure and distinguish the Cross Cultural
Competence of the 4TH Year Secondary Education Students. It is
conducted at Cebu Technological University-Tuburan Campus,
Tuburan Cebu. Specifically, this study anchored of three
frameworks: The Cross- Cultural Competence Inventory (Ross
et.al2009), Intercultural Readiness Assessment (Dodd 2007) and
Situational Judgment Test (Catano et.al 2010). Using the
questionainaires ,the researchers measure how the respondents
cross culturally competent and just to validate their competency
in cross cultural communication. The date gathered or tabulated
based on how the participants answer the different questions
given by the researchers..
Findings

Verbally described as
agree and it was
interpreted as
competent
Sympathize with others without
their cultural perceptions or
standards stepping in.
Encouraged to find different methods of
gathering data.
Expand this study through addition of other
methods in measuring cross cultural
competence
Use this study as reference and have
comparative analysis on similar studies to
determine the strength and weakness of a
method.
