In terms of SEER, R32 is best! In the peak power under cooling
CO2 is the worst. condition.
R32 is better than R22 & R410A.
HFO and CO2 will cause peak power
problems in large cities.

If the R-32 inverter model would become popular in Indonesia,

LCCP reduce about 46% of R-22 standard model.
R-32 and improving efficiency will strongly reduce the global
warming impact in Indonesia and the developing countries.
Difference of Service tools
-It’s only small change of service tools from R410 to R32 refrigerant.
-There are big change of tools from R22 to R32,
R22 → R32 R410 → R32

Trends related refrigerants over the world
 The world is now facing three big movements related to refrigerant
1)Developing country should start HCFC phase out under Montreal(MOP).
2)North American HFC phase down proposal influences global warming
prevention policy regarding refrigerant in each country.
3)In Europe F-gas regulation start to be revised.
 Big change is expected to occur in these one or two years.

Trends related refrigerants over the world
Recent trends; R32 is recognized as an alternative to R22.
 Japanese METI and UNDP are promoting R32. EPA/DOS in USA support it.
Major compressor manufactures and almost all A/C manufactures in Japan
support R32, not propane. At Montreal meeting and IIR(International
conference) in August, these people gathered and promoted R32.
 Montreal fund was decided to support some R32 plans.
“China” plans to convert 50% in R410A and 50% in R32 by 2015 for
commercial sector. For room A/C, 85% in R410A and 15% in propane by
2013 and 10% in R410A and 90% in propane by 2015 will be converted. But
major manufactures say difficult to use propane and wish R32.
“Indonesia” plans to prohibit HCFC import in 2013 and HCFC production in
2015. They decided to use R32 instead of R410A. Japanese government,
Panasonic and Daikin decided to support Indonesia for R32.
 Many developing countries are interested in R32 and hope to contact Daikin.
“Brazil”, “Malaysia” and “Kuwait” are interested in R32 and request a
contact with Daikin. Kuwait are doing a joint evaluation for R32
performance under high ambient temperature condition with Daikin as the
representative of middle east countries.
Daikin’s Policy and Contribution

 Daikin, as leading air-conditioner manufacturer is responsible for seeking

the most feasible solution.
 Daikin are supporting many developing countries in R32, such as China,
Indonesia, Kuwait. And we started to talk with the other countries.
 In order to solve both of Ozone depleting problem and global warming
problem of refrigerant as soon as possible, Daikin is releasing its
indispensable R32 patents to use with no charge. We think it is our
responsibility and our mission.
 Daikin will contribute to prepare conditions to make low flammable
refrigerant available such as R32, HFOs. In order to overcome flammable
issue of them, Daikin are leading the risk assessment in Japan and offer
our technical information regarding a flammability of R32 to risk
assessment program over the world. Moreover we are contributing to revise
some international regulations in the world such as ISO/IEC.
Daikin’s Policy and Contribution
Reference; Why Daikin consider R32 feasible?
 Daikin has been carried out risk evaluations of R32. According to our
experience, we think flammable risk of R32 is acceptable.
 Risk evaluations by the authorities started in the world.
In Japan, JRAIA initiated a government founded project to address the risk.
In USA, AHRI initiated 3 risk assessment projects to address this issue for
different applications.
In China, national project started from May to study the risk of R32 in real
case scenario.
 Revisions of regulation and code started in the world.
 ASHRAE classified non flammable one as A1, mildly flammable one as
A2 and higher flammable one as A3 so far. But recently they created A2L
class for lower flammable one among A2 and considering usage of A2L
refrigerant.
 ISO progressed to the last draft in revision making these refrigerant
feasible following IEC.
 Japan will revise to consider R32 as non flammable.
 China and India will follow ISO/IEC.
Our Experience
CO-ORDINATION & SUPPORT

1. Supply of refrigerant
 R32 can be supplied from China and Japan now. If there is certain amount of demand in India
in future, DAIKIN will consider joint venture with local Indian company.
 The current supply capacity of R32 is about 110 thousand ton per year over the world. Even if
the refrigerant for 2.0 thousand tons which is the expected number needed to phase out R22
in 2015 in India and converts to R32, accounts for just 1.8%. There would be enough supply
of R32 at any given time.
The price of R32 is much lower than R410A, because in R32 there is no need to pay for patents
like R410A.
No License required for R32 Import

2. Support ;Examples
 DAIKIN will release indispensable AC patents for free in India.
 DAIKIN will offer the information related to R32 at technical meetings.
 DAIKIN will conduct field tests with reliable local partner including testing labs.in India and
releasing the result of field test to RAMA.
CO-ORDINATION & SUPPORT

3. Conversion (Infrastructure) cost to R32 A/C model

The conversion cost to R32 from R22 is almost same as a conversion to R410A.

4. Flammability issue

For room A/C, all test like flammability, leakage and drop in passed as shown in video.
For commercial use also, we should follow the revised version of ISO which is expected in 2012.
For the commercial use, training is necessary in service and installation sector.
(Handling large volume refrigerant is required.)

5. The merit of replacing R22 with R32 in India

Energy saving potential of R32. ( more than R22 & R410A)

For example, There is possibility of preventing the global warming impact by maximum 46% of
R-22 standard model adopting both inverter and R32.
