 Introduction
Ganesh Chaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesha, which falls
in the month of Bhadrapad – the months of August to
September. This is celebrated for 10 days and on the eleventh
day, the day of Anant Chaturdasi, the statue of Ganesha is
immersed in a river, well or ocean, which is called Visarjan.

Ganesh festival is one of the biggest festivals in Pune city with

celebrations in homes and large gathering of devotees at
Ganesh Mandals and later at ghats during the immersion of the
idols. The festival is spread over 11 days. The festival also
generates a large amount of holy waste (Nirmalya) in the form
of flowers, decoration material and other religious offerings.

What happens after visarjan?

We propose solution to compost the nirmalya at the place

where its generated.

Out of 34 places in Pimpri Chinchwad we identified four places

where we planned to place the machines.

 Compost Nirmalya at Ghat’s
• Nirmalya to Compost practices during Ganapati
pooja celebrations is to promote awareness and
understanding about waste management.
• It creates cause celebrating the festival in an eco-
friendly way can help avoid adverse effect on the
environment. Waste to Compost nirmalya in
Ganesh Festival help for preserving the city’s
water bodies and the environment.
• There are social groups and NGO's already setup
the Nirmalya Collection drives in past for PMC as
well as PCMC.

• This year immersions follow a schedule performed on following
days:

• One and Half Day Ganesh Visarjan: September 3, 2019

• Third Day Ganesh Visarjan: September 4, 2019
• Fifth Day Ganesh Visarjan: September 6, 2019
• Gauri Visarjan: September 7, 2019
• Seventh Day Ganesh Visarjan: September 8, 2019
• Anant Chaturdashi: September 12, 2019

We will start this activity on 4th Sept 2019 this year.
