POST-COLONIAL ERA MThe post-colonial era includes the post-independent period which dates from 1985-1979. During this
several communities were set up which include the World Bank Assisted Nigeria State Urban Development Programme. The
National Housing policy was set up and launched and Housing Fund was establised in 1992.
.
COLONIAL ERA
The colonial era marked a period of self centeredness on the part of the colonial masters.
This came about due to the fact that the colonial masters at that time never deemed it
necessary to provide decent houses for their counteracts.
PRESENT CONDITION
Contemplation was made by the Obasanjo adminstration in 1999, of a new housing
programme. Under this, it would provide housing units in the federation under a four years period at the rate of 5000 units per
annum. About 2.3million housing units has been established according to the United Nations survery. Presently, World Bank and
some other private sectors has played major role in the housing condition of the country.
