Combustors Used in old engines

• Primary Combustors
There are three types of combustors
a) Annular b) Can c) Cannular
Can or tubular

Used in Modern Engines

CC : Mechanism and parameters
• Basic Physics and Engineering
• CC is unique for particular engine.
• Heat addition is like Brayton Cycle.
• High Combustion Intensity. Less time, less space to burn the
fuel is major challenge as length is restricted in aero engines.
• Should be able to produce stable, hot gases to turbines. CC
also called stabilizer.
• Blown out (Extinguishing) should not happen.
• Turbine temperature is decided by materials, cooling
conditions, speed.
• Uniform temperature profile is needed in turbine. CC has to do
this important job.
