Modal verb Can and
comparative adjectives
The Solar System
Grammar: Comparatives
We use the comparative form of adjectives +
than to say how two people, things, places or
animals are different.
Rules:
1. Short adjectives (of one or two syllables) form
their comparatives by adding “-er”.
Example: Near - nearer
Mercury is nearer to the sun than Jupiter.
2. For adjectives that end in a short vowel sound +
consonant, we double the last consonant
before adding “-er”.
Example: Big – bigger
Saturn is bigger than Mars.
