Mother wants to find out if her son has a
fever. She have a thermometer but she doesn’t
know how to read it. When she tried to use the
thermometer in her son, the thermometer shows:

Do you think her son has a fever?

Can you help her?
What should the mother do if no
one she can ask for help?
Remember:
It is important for us to know/learn how to
read and measure temperature because
temperature serves as a tracking guide that
helps us discover what is going on with your
health, recovery, metabolism and more. This
also allows the doctor to analyze the
effectiveness of treatments based on body
temperatures.

WHAT?
◦C is read as “degree Celsius” is
the commonly used unit to measure
temperature.
Steps in measuring temperature:
1. Shake the thermometer downward several
times until the line goes down.
2. Put the end with the red, blue, or silver-colored
tip under the armpit / tongue or substance.
3. Keep the thermometer for 3 minutes.
4. Remove the thermometer without touching the
tip.
5. Gently wipe the thermometer with a tissue.
Steps in reading temperature:
1. Eyes should be eye level and parallel to the
floor to read accurately.

 Temperature is the measure of hotness or coldness of an object or
substance.
 We can measure temperature by using thermometer.
 The parts of a thermometer are: mercury, glass tube, glass bulb, and
scale.
 The commonly used unit to measure temperature is degree Celsius
(◦C).
 Eyes should be eye level and parallel to the floor to read accurately.
