outcomes.
 $9,237 annually per capita spending
 1 in 3 adults are considered obese
 117 million people have at least one chronic disease
 Life-expectancy rate is declining (78.8 years, compared to an average of 82.2 years among comparable countries)

 National health spending is projected to grow at an average rate of 5.6 percent per year for the next
decade.

 Clearly, change is needed.

There is a tremendous demand for programs, models, and healthcare providers that do more than simply
treat disease. A consumer-driven marketplace is spurring innovation and change that enable healthcare
organizations to better meet patients’ needs.

o Ken Paulus, former CEO of Allina Health who implemented an integrative approach throughout the organization
o General Eric Schoomaker, former United States Army Lieutenant who served as the 42nd Surgeon General of the
United States Army and Commanding General, United States Army Medical Command
o Ralph Snyderman, Chancellor Emeritus at Duke, whose vision helped create the Academic Consortium for
Integrative Medicine and Health

AN INVESTMENT FOR OUR ORGANIZATION

 The next cohort begins in February 2018 and runs through February 2019. Applications are now
being accepted.
 It is a one-year program that offers self-paced online coursework and, after six months, pairs
each student with a faculty mentor from Duke’s Fuqua School of Business to create a business
project for <<YOUR ORGANIZATION>>.

 The cost of the program is $25,000. Financial assistance is available, but I will need to fund at
least some of the cost.
