Definition
Nursing implementation to measure the client's blood pressure
using a sphygnomanometer
Purpose
1. Knowing the general condition of the client
2. Knowing the client's blood pressure
3. Assess the ability of cardiovascular function
4. Keep up with the progress of the disease
5. Helps establish diagnosis
Equipment
1. Sphygnomanometer
2. Fabric or vinyl cuffs with a size that matches the client's
extremities
3. Stethoscope
4. Observation sheet and stationery
Procedure
1. Wash hands
2. Greetings Therapy
3. Hold the client close
4. Explain the purpose and procedure of action
5. Determine the location of the best blood pressure
measurement. Avoid mounting cuffs on the extremities
attached to the infusion, fistula or shunt, traumatized
extremities.
6. Select the appropriate cuff size
7. Position the client supination
8. Free clothes so that the extremities can be seen
9. Look for the location of the arterial pulse by palpation.
10. Position the cuff 2.5 cm above the arterial pulse
11. Install the stethoscope on the ear; make sure the sound
is clear
12. Place the stethoscope bell on the arterial pulse
13. Close the valve clockwise until it is tight
14. Expand the cuff bag quickly until the last beat sounds are
added 30 mm / Hg
15. Gently open the valve while listening to the first and last
heart rate stagingostops while looking at the numbers on
the sphynomanometer.
16. Roll out the cuff until all the air comes out of the cuff
17. Remove the cuff
18. Clean the appliance and tidy up the client
19. Wash hands
20. Record in the observation sheet
