statement is false.
1. Solutions is a liquid mixture
in which the minor component
(the solute) is uniformly
distributed within the major
component (the solvent).
2.Unsaturated solutions is a
solution that contains a
maximum amount of solute
that is capable of being
dissolved.
3. Unsaturated solution is
a solution that contains less
than the maximum amount
of solute that is capable of
being dissolved.
4. saturated solution is
a solution that contains the
maximum amount of solute
that is capable of being
dissolved.
5.A supersaturated
solution is one that has
more solute than it can
hold at a certain
temperature
Parts of a Solution
Solute -the part of a solution that is being dissolved
- usually present in small amount.
Solvent – the part of the solution that dissolves the
solute.
- usually present in greater amount.

Solute + Solvent = SOLUTION

A mixture is a material made
up of two or more
different substances which are
mixed. A mixture refers to the
physical combination of two or
more substances in which the
identities are retained and are
mixed in the form
of solutions, suspensions and
colloids
A homogeneous mixture is
a mixture where the
components that make up
the mixture are uniformly
distributed throughout the
mixture. The composition
of the mixture is the same
throughout.
Homogeneous Mixture Examples
There are several examples of
homogeneous mixtures
encountered in everyday life:
Air
Sugar water
Rainwater
Vodka
Vinegar
Dishwashing detergent
Steel
A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture
where the components of the mixture
are not uniform or have localized
regions with different properties.
Different samples from the mixture are
not identical to each other. There are
always two or more phases in a
heterogeneous mixture, where you can
identify a region with properties that
are distinct from those of another
region, even if they are the same state
of matter (e.g., liquid, solid).
Heterogeneous Mixture Examples
Heterogeneous mixtures are more
common than homogeneous mixtures.

Examples include:
Cereal in milk
Vegetable soup
Pizza
Gravel
Ice in soda
Mixed nuts
Bowl of colored candies
Vocabulary
1. Soluble- a substance that dissolves
in a solvent
2. Insoluble - a substance that does not
dissolve in a solvent
(sand is insoluble in water)
Ways of expressing concentration of
solution
percent by mass (% mass) = mass of solute (grams) x100
mass of solution(grams)

percent by volume (% volume) = volume of solute (mL)x100

volume of solution (mL)
Things to Remember

1. Solution is a homogeneous
mixture.
2. A solution is a mixture of one
phase only.
3. The components are so well
mixed that all parts of the solution
appear the same.
4.Solutions have the
same composition and
properties throughout.
5.Solution is composed of
solute and solvent.
6.A solutions is often
clear and transparent

how important to
know about the
solution?
Choose the correct answer and write the
letter only
1. What is a solution?
A. It is homogeneous mixture composed
of two or more substances. In such a
mixture, a solute is a substance dissolved
in another substance, known as a solvent.
B. It is homogeneous mixture composed
of two or more substances. In such a
mixture, a solvent is a substance dissolved
in another substance, known as a solute.
C. None of the above.
2. What are the two types
of solutions?
A. Saturated and
unsaturated solutions
B. Saturated solution and
mixture
C. Homogenous and
heterogeneous
3. What is saturated solutions?
A. A solution with solute that dissolves
until it is unable to dissolve anymore,
leaving the undissolved substances at
the bottom.
B. A solution (with less solute than the
saturated solution) that completely
dissolves, leaving no remaining
substances.
C. A solution (with more solute than the
saturated solution) that contains more
undisolved
4.What is unsaturated solutions?
A. A solution (with more solute than the
saturated solution) that contains more
undissolved solute than the saturated
solution because of its tendency to
crystallize and precipitate.
B. A solution (with less solute than the
saturated solution) that completely
dissolves, leaving no remaining
substances.
C. A solution with solute that dissolves
until it is unable to dissolve anymore,
leaving the undisolved substances at the
bottom.
5. What is supersaturated solutions?

A. A solution (with less solute than the

saturated solution) that completely
dissolves, leaving no remaining
substances.
B. A solution with solute that
dissolves until it is unable to dissolve
anymore, leaving the undissolved
substances at the bottom.
C. None of the above
