THE FIRST MOTEL
● In 1969, HP Rama traveled to the U.S.
to pursue an MBA degree from Xavier
university
● HP’s first introduced the hospitality
industry as washing dishes and waiting
tables at a Howard Johnson’s, NYC
● From there, his keen interest in the
industry led him to purchase the 40-
room Sunset Motel in 1973 at Pomona,
California. The Beginning: The Sunset
Motel in Pomona, CA – 1973
A FAMILY - RUN BUSINESS
● M.P. and J.P., and later R.P. and D.P., joined HP
● Together they created JHM Hotels as a family business
● Acknowledged in the top fifty hospitality companies in the
world.
● JHM owns and operates 42 national hotels, representing
various brands, with over 7,000 rooms.
● Several other properties are under development, with more
projects scheduled in the near future.
● JHM owns the Hotel Taj Gateway Hotel in Surat developed
in 1990 under the leadership of the late D.P. Rama.

● The surat franchise came into existence in
November 2017.
● It is a brand owned by marriott international.
● They are a mid-priced range of hotels designed
for business travelers but also accommodate
families.
● According to marriott portal in customer rating
surat franchise got 1st position in India and 2nd
in Asia Pacific.
● It computes with other mid-price business
oriented hotels in surat like Ginger Hotels.
