IMPROVISED EGG INCUBATOR FROM

STYROFOAM AND TIN CANS

GIAN NICOLE Q. TELIC
Background of the Study

Styrofoam is non-biodegradable and appears to last

forever. It’s resistant to photolysis, or the breaking down of
materials by photons originating from light.
Commercial incubators usually consume too much
electricity and there is no guarantee that it will work.
However there are some recyclable materials that can be
used as an improvised incubator such as styrofoam which has
good insulation properties which can be used as the main
part of the incubator and the tin cans that can be used as the
ventilation for the improvised incubator.
Statement of the problem

 The aim of the study is to make an improvised egg

incubator using styrofoam and tin cans, to lessen the
improper disposal of styrofoam and tin cans, and to
be able to have the appropriate temperature in
incubating the eggs.
Hypothesis

Alternative Hypothesis
 1.)The styrofoam and tin cans will be an effective non-
electric egg incubator.
 2.)The improvised egg incubator will be able to have
the appropriate temperature to hatch eggs.
 3.)The materials for our study are sustainable here in
the Philippines.
Hypothesis
Null Hypothesis
 1.)The Polystyrene foam and tin cans will not be an
effective non-electric egg incubator.
 2.)The non-electric egg incubator won’t be able to
have the appropriate temperature to hatch eggs.
 3.)The materials for my study are not sustainable here
in the Philippines.
Conceptual framework

Independent Variable
Styrofoam And Tin Cans

Dependent Variable
Efficiency Of The Improvised Incubator
Objectives of the study

 To test the effectiveness of polystyrene foam and tin

cans as an alternative non-electric incubator.
 To discover the new ways of recycling polystyrene
foams and tin cans

 To help the environment maintain cleanliness by

reusing polystyrene foams and tin cans.

 To have a less time consuming way of incubating eggs.

Significance of the study

The results gathered from the study will benefit the following sectors:

 1.) DOA (Dept. of agriculture): The results of my study will provide the Dept.
of Agriculture with a new effective and less expensive way of incubating
eggs.

 2.) Poultry farm owners: Most poultry farm owners use a modern way of
incubating their eggs, specifically by using an egg incubator. The data
gathered from my study will provide them a less expensive yet effective way
of incubating their eggs.

 3.) Incubator making companies: The information of my study will provide

them more information about making non-electric incubator using
polystyrene foam and tin cans.
Proposed material

 The raw materials that will be used in this

study are; approximately 39x44cm styrofoam
box, 38x38cm screenwire, 7x7cm transparent
glass, 12 fl oz of water, 8pcs of tin cans with
various sizes, and 4pcs of screw.
 The laboratory materials that will be used for
this research study are: 1 thermometer and 1
gas lamp.

Proposed experimental design

 Our proposed research design will be pre-test and

post-test design.
Risk and Safety

 Biosafety level 1 – Eye Protection, Protective Gloves,

 While conducting the study, an adult sponsor with
experience to our study will be guiding us
Disposal plan

 Excess materials will be properly stored in a storage

for future purposes, Some trash will be properly
disposed on their rightful trash bins.
