Conflict
Management
Overview

Analyze a situation where some of the team members disagreed with

your ideas or approach and discuss how to handle the situation.
Conflicts

Start at a very low level

The second someone disagrees

-> Conflict

Two basic paths, escalation or

subsidation
Escalation

Work or Project quality

and group atmosphere can
suffer
Rivalries, broken professional
relationships
Is escalation always bad? How do we
deal with an escalation when it occurs?
Case Study 1

You begin working on a project with 4 other students. The project

requirements are rather vague, leaving your group plenty of leeway
to improvise and go above and beyond. You and another group
member state that you would like to do something creative and get a
good grade, while the rest of the group is content with abiding by the
minimum requirements, how do you resolve the conflict?
Case Study 2

You have been working on a project with 4 other students. You and
most of the other group members have been working diligently,
except for one, Max. Max rarely shows up for group meetings and
works slowly when he does. You and the other group members state
that you want to confront him, since there have been a few blow-
outs. How do you resolve the ongoing conflict?
