Networking
Creating Ethernet Cable
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
 Recognize the importance and functions
of Ethernet cable;
 Perform the procedure in making a
straight-through network cabling;
 Value the importance of following safety
precaution while working.
Ethernet Cable
A standard wire that connect computers to
a network for file sharing and internet
access.
Wiring Standards Basis
Ethernet cable can be wired as:

Crossover Cable
Use to connect devices of the same type,
such as two computer or two switches .
Straight-Through Cable
Use to connect devices of different-type,
such as PC to switch or switch to printer.
Materials and tools used for
cabling:
 UTP Cable
 Wire Stripper
 RJ45
 Scissors
 Crimping Tool
 LAN Tester
Safety Precautions:
 Work in stable surface
 Avoid working in dim areas
 Wear safety glass
 Use tools only for its intended purpose
Procedure in creating
Ethernet cable:
 Strip cable end
 Untwist wire ends
 Arrange wires to T-568A or T-568B
 Trim wire evenly
 Attach RJ45 connector
 Check
 Crimp
 Repeat to the other end of the cable
 Test using LAN tester
Step 1 - Strip cable end:
 Strip
1 – 1 ½” insulating sheath
 Avoid cutting into conductor insulation
Step 2 – Untwist wire ends:
 Sort
wires by insulator
colors
Step 3 – Arrange wires:
 T-568A: WG-G WO-BL WBL-O WBr-Br
 T-568B: WO-O WG-BL WBL-G WBr-Br
Step 4 – Trim wires
 Trimall wires evenly
 Leave about ½” wires exposed
Step 5 – Attach Rj45
connector:
 Maintain wire order with
rj45 tab facing downward
Step 6 – Check:
 Do all wires extend to the end?
 Is sheath well inside connector?
Step 7 – Crimp:
 Squeezefirmly to crimp
connector unto cable end
Step 8 – Repeat:
 Repeatprocedures to the other end of
the cable.
Step 9 – Test:
 Does the cable work?
Students’ performance will be evaluated/rated using
the Performance Rubrics.
