State Bank of Pakistan is the central bank of the Pakistan , it is
unique in the sense that it started its function in a newly born
country, where it also had to shoulder responsibilities of developing
and rehabilitating a banking system and the economy.

Banking Services Corporation (BSC) set up in January 2002,
is the subsidiary of the state bank of Pakistan and is entrusted
with the task of currency management and operational and
administrative oversight of foreign exchange departments,
export and other finance, management of government
accounts and operational work related to government
certificates.
 What Is Money?
Money is defined as anything that is generally accepted as
payment for goods and services and repayment of debts.

The main uses of money for us are as a medium of

exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value.

 Why are Security Features Important?

◉Counterfeit money has ill-effects on society:

1. Reduction in the value of real money
2. Increase in prices (inflation) due to more money getting circulated
in the economy
3. Decrease in the acceptability (satisfactoriness) of money
4. Companies are not reimbursed for counterfeits. This forces them
to increase prices of commodities

 Security Features On U.S Dollar Note
A portrait watermark that reveals a faint image of
Benjamin Franklin when the note is held to the light.
The numerical 100 in the lower right corner of the
front shifts from copper to green when the note is
tilted.
Raised printing can be felt throughout the note.
A large gold numerical 100 on the back of the note
helps those with visual impairments.
Special paper that has red and blue security fibers.
The paper is one-fourth linen and three-fourths cotton.

 Recommendations For Security Features In
Pakistani Currency Notes
1. Many countries have introduced plastic like polymer notes and in some countries they are
already in use. Thus we recommend State Bank of Pakistan to introduce polymer notes as
well.
Benefits Of Polymer Notes:
Security features are easy to verify and hard to
counterfeit.
Polymer notes last at least 2.5 times longer than paper
notes, reducing replacement costs.
Lower environmental impact because they last longer.
Completely waterproof.
Cleaner because they are resistant to dirt and
moisture.
Cost is lower.

2. Introduce and expand the public awareness programs by launching:

 Smart phone application that will help counterfeit fake notes.

 Motion cards that have all features a note engraved in it in a 3D format.
The public can take it anywhere since it is portable and handy and check for fake
currency easily.

3. Since there is no existing setup for polymer notes in Pakistan , the State
Bank can also improve its current cotton notes by adding more (latest)
features

These features are the hologram and the 3D thread.

 Install, necessary equipment / machines for detection of fake

currency.

 Educate their customers about the security features of currency

notes.

 Encourage the general public to hand over any counterfeit note

that has come to their possession to the nearest bank branch /
SBP Banking Services Corporation office.
 Conclusion
“Security features of the Pakistani currency are
more as compared to other major currencies but
there is still room for improvement by bringing
in some latest features"
