NEED OF ENERGY EFFICIENT
BUILDINGS
■ Buildings contribute to serious environmental problems because of excessive
consumption of energy and other natural resources
■ Demands for heating, cooling, ventilation & lighting cause severe depletion of
invaluable environmental resources
■ Buildings can be designed to meet occupant’s need for thermal and visual comfort
at reduced levels energy & resources consumption
■ Energy resource efficiency in new constructions can be effected by adopting an
integrated approach to building design
GOAL OF ENERGY EFFICIENT
BUILDINGS
■ The idea of Energy Efficient design is to modulate the conditions such that they are
always within or as close as possible to comfort zone
■ Modulations introduced by the landscape, built form, envelope, material and other
control measures bring the conditions within range in 24 hour cycle
