SSC Combined Graduate Level Examination

• Staff Selection Commission - Combined Graduate Level Examination, often referred to as SSC CGL is an examination
conducted to recruit staff to various posts in ministries, departments and organizations of the Government of India.
• It is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission for selecting staff for various Group B and Group C posts.
• The exam is conducted in 4 stages called Tiers.
• The first two tiers will be conducted online and the next two will be offline exams.
• Aspirants must qualify each phase of the SSC CGL exam to go on to the next one, before being finally selected.
Prerequisites for the exam.

• Candidates applying for the various posts need to have a bachelor's degree from a recognized university at the time of
applying.
• The age requirements are between 20 to 30 years.
• The age limits may vary depending on the position applied. For instance, the position for Inspector of Central Bureau of
Narcotics which had an age range from 18 to 27 years, was extended to 30 years in September 2018.
• The application fee for General /OBC candidates is Rs 100
• All women candidates and candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex-
Servicemen eligible for reservation are exempted from paying application fee.
• Physical Fitness Requirements: Apart from the above, there are certain requisite Physical Standards for Inspector
(Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer), Sub-Inspector in CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation) and Sub-Inspector
in NIA (National Investigation Agency).

Salary structure of the posts offered by SSC:

• Salary Structure of SSC CGL 2019 is based on the Seventh Central Pay Commission and applicable to Central Government
Departments. Pay scale according to the latest pay band for each post which will be given through SSC CGL recruitment
exam is given below:

• The information about monthly salary in hand is not released by SSC but one can use approximation for such purpose.
Salary is approximately three times the basic pay scale. It means that if basic pay scale for a post is 9300-34800, then salary
per month will be Rs. 28000/- initially. Later in few years the same will be increased as per the increment norms and rise in
the allowances such as DA, HRA, etc
Exam pattern of SSC:
• Every year Staff Selection Commission (SSC) carries out the Combined Graduate Level (CGL) in four levels for various posts.

• SSC CGL 2019 Tier 1 and Tier 2 exam will be held online.
• A descriptive paper is introduced which will be of 100 marks with a time limit of 60 minutes in pen and paper mode
• There will be no sectional cut off.
SSC CGL Tier 1 Exam & Syllabus:

• Tier 1 is an objective exam which will be held online


• It will have 4 sections in Tier 1 exam of SSC CGL , with 100 questions
• Each question will carry 2 marks which makes a total of 200 marks

Important Points:
• SSC CGL 2019 Tier 1 Exam will have negative marking. One wrong answer to a question will deduct 0.5 marks from the
total of all sections.
• Question paper of SSC CGL Tier 1 will have four sections and those will be based on the 10th and 10 + 2 level syllabus.
General Intelligence & Reasoning:
• Analogies, Similarities and Differences, Space visualization & Spatial orientation, Visual memory, Arithmetic number
series, Non- verbal series, Coding and Decoding, Statement conclusion, Figure analogy, Word building, Numerical and
Symbolic operations, Venn diagrams,

Quantitative Aptitude & Data Interpretation:


• Computation of whole numbers decimals, Percentage, Ratio and proportion, Square roots, Averages, Interest, Profit loss
and discount, Allegation, Time & work, Time & distance, Triangles, Quadrilaterals, Circles, Right circular cone and
cylinders, Trigonometric ratios, Histogram, Bar diagram and pie-chart
General Awareness
• India and its neighbouring countries, History, Culture, Geography, Economics, Current affairs
English Comprehension
• Reading Comprehension, Fill in the blanks, Spellings, One word substitution, Sentence correction.
SSC CGL Tier 2 Exam & Syllabus:

• Tier 2 exam is an objective exam which will be conducted online. There are four sections in this Tier with 100 questions
which account for a total of 200 marks.

• Paper-1 and Paper-2 are compulsory for all posts


• Paper-3 is only for the post of “Statistical Investigator Gr. II” & “Compiler”
• Paper-4 is only for the post of “Assistant Audit Officer”
• There will be negative marking in SSC CGL 2019 Tier 2 exam.
• One wrong answer to a question will deduct 0.5 marks in Paper-1,3,4 and 0.25 marks in Paper-2.
• Level for Paper 1 Questions will be of 10th standard l, Paper-2 of 10+2 level and Paper-3 & 4 on graduation level.
• The computer will be made available by the Commission at the Centre/venue allocated for the exam
SSC CGL Tier 3 Exam & Syllabus:

• This is a descriptive exam with the purpose of testing the written skills of the candidates in English/Hindi. It is
held offline
• The candidates are required to write Essay/Letter/Application/Precis. In order to prepare for this section one
needs to read lots of articles from various newspapers and magazines.
• Besides this, one needs to be well-versed with the latest pattern of Letter and Application.
• The duration of this exam is of 60 minutes’ and carries 100 marks.
• 10+2 level questions are asked in this exam
• It is a qualifying exam.
SSC CGL Tier 4 Exam & Syllabus:

• Tier 4 Exam of SSC CGL Exam 2019 will have the couple of skill tests which are necessary for certain government posts.
• DEST (Data Entry Speed Test): It is a qualifying skill test for all the posts, other than Compiler. It is held to test the typing
speed of the candidate. In this test, the candidates are given the printed material in English which they should type
accurately on a computer with a minimum of 2000 (two thousand) key depressions. The duration of this test is 15 (fifteen)
minutes.
• CPT (Computer Proficiency Test): SSC will hold CPT, in three modules - Word Processing, Spread Sheet and Generation of
Slides. It will be applicable for applicants of Assistants of CSS. CPT is a qualifying test
SSC CGL Interview Details

There is no interview conducted for SSC CGL Exam. It has objective and descriptive exam pattern. On the
basis of the same merit is generated and the candidates who successfully clear all the phases are
appointed for the post in the requisite Government Department or Ministry.
