Research Methodology

• Qualitative research methodology is adopted and one of it’s research


design named case study is used in this paper.
• Qualitative research method focuses on subjective dimensions and
micro perspective of the issue or problem of the study is presented
(Johnson & Christensen, 2008).
Data Collection Method
• This paper analyzes the existing literature with reviewing the official
annual reports of Puma to present the details related to the company’s
outsourcing and offshoring of production.
• The primary data collection technique includes analysis of annual
reports of Puma and secondary data collection technique includes
published journal articles, essays, reports and books.
• On the other hand, the consent from representatives of Puma in using
their annual reports are taken and respecting their privacy the financial
data is not reviewed. Due to limited time and cost constraints, only the
case study research design is selected.
Preliminary findings
Outsourcing and offshoring initiatives taken by Puma in terms of
production
• Considering multiple service providers like China, Bangladesh,
Indonesia and many others in terms of producing unique and sporty
footwear so instead of just focusing on one supplier, Puma focus on
partnership with different independent companies and has around 14-
18 partners globally for outsourcing and offshoring it’s production.
• Efficient process of change management that support to make only the
anticipated changes.
• Code of conduct that was developed in 1993 to its sourcing and
offshoring heads and conducts audits for ensuring the compliance with
some basic environmental and social standards.
Preliminary findings
• Puma owned sourcing organization named World Cat to facilitate its
production outsourcing and offshoring globally so that supplier selection,
controlling of product quality and price negotiation can be done with ease.

• Opportunity to Puma to take advantage of global and versatile talent and in
this way unique and innovative products are produced every year
