I. LEARNING COMPETENCIES:
At the end of the lesson, the learners should be able to:
1. Explain creativity and innovation
2. Differentiate creativity from innovation
3. Practice creativity through generating
innovative ideas as they participate in learning
activities
ACTIVITY 1: “CIRCLES”
Objectives:
1. Challenge the students to think outside the
box.
2. Discover their creativity goes in creating new
things provided by limited materials.
3. Discover their capacity for innovation and in
creativity and resourcefulness provided limited
materials.
4. Exercise creativity and innovation in a fun
way.
Instructions:
1. Distribute the template to the participants.
2. There are 30 circles in the template.
3. In one minute, allow learners to draw everything
they might think of in re-imagining each circle. Make
sure that each image is unique.
4. Find out after the given time, who among them filled
out the most /least amount of circles.
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION AS
QUALITY OF ENTREPRENEURS
There are a lot of good business ideas, but
there are ones that are exceptionally
brilliant. There are those business ideas on
the other hand, that lack creativity and may
propose little added value for customers /
public.
The reason behind successful businesses,
is the entrepreneur’s creativity and/or
innovative qualities. Many businesses
nowadays reach their maximum potential
through continuous innovation of their
products, services and even their systems.
The lack of creativity may lead to death
of one’s business. The lack of
innovations, lead to becoming bottom
listed.

That is why entrepreneurs who want


their businesses to be successful are
challenging themselves to innovate and
continue creating something new that is
valuable for their targets.
CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
1. What is Creativity?
-Creativity is the act of turning new and
imaginative ideas into reality.
-The use of the imagination or original ideas,
especially in the production of an artistic work.

2. the ability to create meaningful new forms,
etc.; originality.
3. the process of using creative ability.
2. What is Innovation?
-Innovation generally refers to changing or creating
more effective processes, products and ideas.
-Innovation can increase the likelihood of a business
succeeding. Businesses that innovate, create more
efficient work processes and have better
productivity and performance.
Innovation is implementing new advances or
significant improvements to products,
services or processes that create value for
business, government or society.

For businesses, this could mean implementing


new ideas, creating dynamic products or
improving your existing services. Innovation
can be a catalyst for the growth and success of
a business, and help businesses adapt and
grow in the marketplace.
Being innovative does not mean inventing, innovation can
mean changing your business model and adapting to changes in
your environment to deliver better products or services.

Successful innovation should be an innate part of your business


strategy, where you create a culture of innovation and lead the
way in innovative thinking and creative problem solving.

Businesses that innovate create more efficient work processes


and have better productivity and performance.
3. Creativity vis-à-vis Innovation
Often times, there is confusion
between creativity and
innovation. They are
interconnected, but definitely,
different.

How is creativity and innovation
differentiated?
Creativity is the Innovation is converting
generation of new ideas creative ideas into desired
outputs
For example, the idea of creating a
cellphone. Before, cellphones were only
used for making calls, but with
innovations, cellphones are now used
for sending messages, multimedia,
emails, etc. It has, likewise, made
innovations with regard to size and
weight, to fit the more mobile lifestyles
of its users.
4. What is activity?
An activity is a battery of exercises
that stimulate creativity. The following
are some sample exercises may
promote creative thinking.
5 Key Behaviors That Optimize Brain
For Discovery
1. Associating: drawing connections between questions, problems, or ideas from
unrelated fields.
Example: During brainstorming, you can throw random ideas, questions that excites the
participants that challenges their creativity, identify daily problems they have
encountered, etc
2. Questioning: posing queries that challenge common wisdom.
Example: Why people still chose to ride an MRT or LRT despite of many complaints on its
management system?
3. Observing: scrutinizing the behavior of customers, suppliers and competitors to
identify new ways of doing things. Observing may done formal or in formal.
Example: The way how ancient people discovered to cook the food they ate and it has
better taste than eating it without cooking.
4. Networking: meeting people with different ideas and perspectives.
Example: attending summit, conferences and seminars and workshops, etc.
5. Experimenting: constructing interactive experiences and provoking responses to see
what insights emerges.
Example: Putting ice cream in a bread as filling; Toothpaste with different flavors and
colors; Chicken nuggets with different shapes, it attract more the kids and excites them
to eat.
ACTIVITY 3: “CREATIVE / INNOVATIVE”
Objectives:
1. Differentiate creativity and innovation.
2. Acquire deepened understanding of creativity and
innovation.
3. Derive understanding of creative / innovative
solutions from exercise.
Instructions:
1. Exhibit pictures / cut-outs on the wall / board
2. Ask the learners to choose a picture and classify
the business / product / service as either creative
or innovative.
3. Probe students why they deem one business /
product / service as creative / innovative.
4. Ask students what possible need or problem
the business / product / service proposed to
address.
Key Steps Towards Business Innovation
1. Conduct an analysis of the market environment, your customers wants and
needs and competitors. Be open to new ideas and adaptive to change.
2. Develop a strategic, responsive plan, which includes innovation as a key
business process across the entire business.
3. Leadership in innovation - train and empower employees to think
innovatively from the top down.
Inspirational leadership and motivation is what drives innovation in
business.
4. Connect with customers and employees to generate ideas for improving
processes, products and services both internally and externally.
5. Seek advice. Utilize available resources, business advisors, grants and
assistance to drive innovation in your business. This may include seeking
Intellectual Property (IP) protection for commercialization of ideas.
6. Remember, innovation is the key to competitive advantage for your
business.
