3-D PRINTING
WILL CHANGE
THE WORLD
WMSU

WESTERN MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY

INTRODUCTION
 To anyone who hasn’t seen it
demonstrated, 3-D printing sounds
futuristic—like the meals that
materialized in the Jetsons’ oven at the
touch of a keypad.
• Yet, by enabling a machine to produce
objects of any shape, on the spot and
as needed, 3-D printing really is
ushering in a new era.
ADVANTAGES
• Many goods that have relied on the scale
efficiencies of large, centralized plants
will be produced locally. Even if the per-
unit production cost is higher, it will be
more than offset by the elimination of
shipping and of buffer inventories.
• Another implication is that goods will be
infinitely more customized, because
altering them won’t require retooling, only
tweaking the instructions in the software.

CONCLUSION
• 3D printing will be a revolutionary force
in manufacturing. Many companies are
already using this technology to
repeatable produce complicated
components, such as automotive parts
and aerospace manufacturing.
CONCLUSION
• 3D printer will be inevitably useful for
local, small scale manufacturing as it
largely eliminates shipping and buffer
inventories. Consumer units for home
use will even be possible to do easily,
allowing users to simply download a
design for the product they require and
print it out.
MIXED REALITY
CHANGES HOW
ENGINEERS
WORK
WMSU

WESTERN MINDANAO STATE UNIVERSITY

Recently, a bridge was shutdown when
bridge inspectors on site discovered
severe structural deficiencies.
INTRODUCTION
• New mixed reality tools and equipment
could change all of that.
• Rather than working on site, engineers
or inspectors will be able to view the
bridge remotely through a visual
headpiece to identify problems or
collaborate with workers on site in real
time.
FEATURES
• The device (HoloLens) is a wearable
holographic computer operating on a
specialized version of Windows 10.
• It enables the users to interact with the
3D holograms.
• Users can pin holograms to physical
objects using gesture, gaze and voice
commands.
ADVANTAGES
• Allows engineers and contractors to
visualize progress and find errors
during construction.
• Reduce costs and time needed for
accurate inspections.
• Unlike virtual reality, it projects images
onto the lenses where they are
perceived to exist together with real-
world elements.
In which sectors do you expect to see the most investment
directed to the development of MIXED REALITY technology or
content in the next 12 months?

CONCLUSION
• Mixed reality enables the users to view
the virtual images projected on the
walls of a room and make design
changes virtually, saving money on
physical models and speeding up
design.
CONCLUSION
• With the use of HoloLens, it bridges the
gap between digital and physical and
its value in the field may be bigger than
in the office. It completely changes the
way you work on site.
