What is infrared Light ?

 Infrared is invisible electromagnetic wave produced by the electron in the

molecules vibrate because of heated object. so, any hot object certainly emits
infrared light. Every object that is above zero temperaure kelvin definitely emits
infrared radiation. the amount of infrared light emitted depends on the
temperature and the colors of objects.
Infrared light covers the
frequency 10 𝐻𝑧 𝑡𝑜 10 𝐻𝑧.

Discovery of Infrared
Sir Frederick William
Herschel
• F.W. Herschel (1738 – 1822) was born in
Hanover

• From 1757 he lived in England

• A musician and an astronomer

• In 1781 he discoveres Uranus

• He created catalogs of double stars and nebulae

• In 1800 he discovered infrared

How Herschel Discovered Infrared Light ?
Herschel passed sunlight through a prism. As sunlight passes through the prism, the
prism divides it into a rainbow of colors called a spectrum. A spectrum contains all of the colors
which make up sunlight. Herschel was interested in measuring the amount of heat in each color.
To do this he used thermometers with blackened bulbs and measured the temperature of the
different colors of the spectrum.
5 Application of Infrared in Daily Life

1. Infrared Heaters
The infrared can heat
the opaque objects instead of
the air around them. These are
also used in industries for
wielding, drying, etc.

2. Ear Thermometer
• Common sensor : e.g
thermophile
• Sees and measures the
eardrum’s infrared
• Emissions temperature
• Displayed on a LCD
5 Application of Infrared in Daily Life

3. Thermal Imaging
used to determine the
temperature of an object
remotely. This is used mostly
in industries and military
operations

4. As a medical device
the beam given by infrared
light can help the body's organs
emit information for the health
doctor that is being experienced by
the patient.
5. Remote control

1. 2.
The remote control uses On this circuit, the chip can
infrared LED (Light Emitting detect when the button is
Diode) which functions as an pressed. The chip sends a signal
infrared transmitter pattern. to the transistor to amplify the
signal.

3. 4.
When the disk touches At the end of the circuit board visible
the contact on the
LED (Light emitting Diode) which will
printed circuit board, it
will be read by the chip. emit infrared light.
Conclution

Infrared radiation is an invisible light source. Radiation generated by the

electrons in the molecule vibrate because of heated objects. It has advantage for
many kinds of subjects in our life such as in health, astronomy, etc. But usually we
have to use proctetive personal equipments when touching with strong infrared
because it is danger for health especially for our eyes
