ABSTRACT
The rising costs of building construction in developing
countries have been a source of concern to government
and private developers.This study investigated the use
of Teri sand as a partial replacement for fine aggregates
in concrete production.Teri sand was used to replace
fine aggregates from 0%,25%,50%,75%,100%.Concrete
cubes measuring 150x150x150mm were cast and their
compressive strengths evaluated at 7,14,28 days.The
corresponding strength is to be obtained.
INTRODUCTION
 The natural aggregates (sand, gravel, crushed stone) are the
main source of construction aggregates, which are used in
their natural state or after mechanical processing including
crushing, sizing, and washing of these aggregates.
 India is a variety of environments .In some areas, many
aggregates do not meet the physical property requirements
for certain uses, or they may contain mineral constituents
that react adversely when used as concrete aggregate.
 Teri sand (sandy waste in local parlance ) is used here for
weathered coastal reddened dunes. Two types of Aeolian
deposits, red and white dunes were identified along the
southeast coast of Tamil Nadu, India.
OBJECTIVES
To assess the engineering properties of concrete
made with Teri sands. Compressive strength,
split tensile strength, flextural strength.
Scope
• Comparing the properties of replacement of
concrete with TERI sand and Msand
• Improve the compressive ,flextural and split
tensile strength of concrete by replacing TERI
sand with concrete
LITERATURE REVIEW
 E.S.S.A seif (2013) have studied the engineering
properties of concrete made with fine dune sand.
This study reveal that the compressive strength of
concrete decreases with increasing dune sand
content.
 Gillott (1980) have studies the properties of
aggregates affecting concrete materials.
 Rocco etal (2009) have studied the effect of
aggregate shape on mechanical properties of a
simple concrete

DETERMINATION OF SPECIFIC GRAVITY
G=W2-W1/(W2-W1)(W3-W4)
• The specific gravity of Msand is G=2.71
• The specific gravity of coarse aggregate is
G=2.74
• The specific gravity of cement is G=3.15
• The specific gravity of Teri sand is G=2.69
MIX design
For the tolerence factor of 1.65 and using table 1 from IS10262-2000, the
standard deviation S=4N/mm2. So target mean strength for the specified.
Characteristic cure strength=
20+(4x1.65)=26.6N/mm2
From table 5 from IS456-2000
Maximum water content =0.5
Total water content=197.16kg/m^3
Cement=394.3kg/m^3
Volume of coarse aggregate=0.62
Volume of fine aggregate=0.38
Volume of cement=0.127
Volume of water=0.197
Z=0.676
Mass of coarse aggregate=1116.71kg/m^3
Mass of fine aggregate=677.25kg/m^3

CONCLUSION
• Due to presence of Iron oxide in Teri sand the
compressive strenght increase upto 30
N/mm^2.
• Iron oxide in Teri sand reacts with moisture
content ,then rust will occure.This will be
controlled by appling any coat of plastering.
• The physical properties of Teri sand is more
when compared to the M sand.
