Black Salt

• Kala Namak or Himalayan Black Salt, also known as


Sulemani Namak, Black Salt, Bit Lobon or Kala Noon
• A salty and pungent-smelling condiment used in South
Asia
• Composed primarily of sodium chloride(NaCl) and trace
compounds of
• sodium bisulfate,
• sodium bisulfite,
• sodium sulfide,
• sodium sulphate
• iron sulfide and hydrogen sulphide
• Presence of NaCl gives salty taste & Iron Sulphide provides
dark violet hue and presence of sulphur compounds gives
pungent smell.
Origin
• In antiquity, Black salt was
harvested from either volcanic
mines in Northern India and
Pakistan, or the salt lakes
surrounding Sambhar and Didwana
in Rajasthan.
• Also found in Mustang District of
Nepal

• It pacifies Vata and increases Pitta and Kapha1
• In Gastritis & Bloating1
