Activity:let Us Have Our Review!!!

ARE YOU READY?

ACTIVITY: MATCH THE EXACT TERM
STRATEGY: REVISIT THE PAST

Direction: Match Set A that exactly

define Set B. Use pentel pen given
by the teacher. If you get the
correct answer write 2 points at the
back of your lecture notebook. The
teacher will sign the points right after
the class.
ACTIVITY:SEARCH WORD PUZZLE
STRATEGY:LEADING WORDS TO UNLOCK THE TOPIC
Have you ever asked
yourselves of where
does an earthquake
begin/ started?
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
AT THE END OF 1 HOUR PERIOD YOU SHOULD BE
ABLE TO:
 DIFFERENTIATE BETWEEN FOCUS AND
EPICENTER
DEMONSTRATE HOW MOVEMENT ALONG
FAULTS AFFECT SORROUNDINGS.
ACTIVITY: WHERE DOES AN EARTHQUAKE START?
STRATEGY: CONNECTING CONCEPTS VIA FAULT
MODEL( 15 MINUTES)
PROCEDURE:
1. Students will be given a photocopy the Fault

Model. Then cut along the outlines of the two

drawings.
2. Fold along the lines and paste where indicated. In
the end, you should have a model consisting of two
parts that fit together (Figure 13)
3. The upper surface of the model represents the
surface of the earth. The trace of fault on the surface
of the earth is called the fault line.
4. Students will pull the two pieces apart. The flat surface
between the two pieces is called the fault plane. This is
where fault splits or fault movement happens.
5. The place where the fault begins to slip is called the
focus. It is where the first movement occurs. Students will
put the two pieces together. The focus is now hidden
“underground”. Now, students will imagine a vertical line
from the focus to the upper surface of the model. Then,
will mark the place they expect the line to come out.
The spot directly above the focus on the surface of the
earth is called the epicenter.

My part: Let me Explain!!!

TERMS:
• FOCUS= ORIGIN OF
EARTHQUAKE. LOCATED
ALONG FAULT
• EPICENTER= DIRECTLY
ABOVE THE FOCUS
• FAULT PLANE= WHERE
MOVEMENTS OCCUR
ACTIVITY: PLEASE DO REMEMBER!
This illustration shows
active faults and
trenches in the
Philippines. If you were
planning to build a
house? Where would it
be? Why?
