• The modern zoo plays a critical role in
providing children and adults alike
with knowledge about the different
animals with whom human share this
planet, through presentations, special
programs and community events.
• Zoos provide jobs, create tourism
opportunities and can also be an
economic resource for a
community. For instance, the
Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle has an
annual budget that exceeds $36
million.
• On the other hand, keeping animals in
captivity offers an ethical
dilemma. Many do very poorly when
living in captivity, including orcas. An
orca in the wildlife may live up to 100
years, but the average age for a
confined orca is less than 30 years.
• Because zoos are treated more as a
recreational facility, visitors do not
always have respect for the animals.
An example of this occurred in 2016
when a 7-month old boy walked into
a gorilla enclosure. To save the boy,
the zoo killed the male gorilla named
Harambe.
• Overall, the highest export earning for Scotland came
from business services while the UK was the largest
market for Electrical and instrument engineering
goods manufactured by Scotland.
• Remarkably, export value from engineering industry
to the UK (4 billion) surpassed the global export
returns and Scotland profitted the least from
agriculture, forestry, fishing and mining industries.
• Guns should be subject to stricter
control to reduce accidental deaths.
According to an October 2005 article
in The Independent, in the preceding
12 years, 30 civilians had been shot
dead by police.
• As many as half of the world’s 7,000
languages are expected to be extinct
by the end of the twenty first
century; it is estimated that one
language dies out every 14 days.
• While it is true that hundreds of
languages have fallen silent in past
decades, linguists are making great
efforts to learn as much about
disappearing languages as possible
and communities are trying to
revitalize those who are on the brink.
• Small and medium-sized companies lay great stress
on expanding their contacts. Dissimilar to
this, large enterprises set their targets to earn
more profits from converting customers.
• The bar graph outlines the comparative analysis of the
American companies’ top five priorities in 2016. The
striking feature to note is that irrespective of
companies’ size, primary importance was given to rising
the number of contacts and converting customers.
• Like family income, parental education
is a strong influence on children’s
development. Statistics reveal that
children whose parents are well-
educated are 55% more likely to
graduate high school and 46% more
likely to acquire a Bachelor’s Degree or
higher.
• Although preliminary findings do not
allow us to draw hard conclusions, it
is clear that almost all parent’s low
educational attainment is a
widespread threat to children’s well-
being.
• The general pattern to be discerned from this
graph is that the amount of time distributed to
upper-secondary lectures is higher than that to
lower-secondary and primary education.
• With regard to upper secondary tuition, almost
1200 hours were allocated in the USA, which
represented the highest figure among all
countries investigated.
• Recent research from transport data
into the state of congestion in 200
cities in 38 countries highlights the
impact of snarled traffic. In the US, it
was found the total cost of lost
productivity caused by congestion to
be $87 billion.
• Regarding to countries with worst
traffic, Thailand topped the global
breakdown with drivers spending an
average of 56 hours in peak-hour
congestion. Other countries in the top
five include the Phillipines with 51
hours, Colombia with 49 and
Venezuela with 42 hours.
